Hello, I make exact replica tanks for the Mills...

I make exact replica tanks for the Mills .75's Mks I and II's and for the Mills 1.3's. The 1.3 tanks I machine from nylon 6/6 bar. The originals were moulded in nylon 6/6. Please let me...

RE: Club Mills!

G' Day Larry!

Piston fit sounds good! It would be normal to get some drag on newly made piston and bores. Some of that is due to the engine having to change the direction of lay of the surface...

RE: Club Mills!

G' Day Larry,

You are to be congratulated on your Mills 1.3 replica! I knew it wasn't original and initially guessed it might have been an English made Attachport replica. Using a high tensile...

RE: Club Mills!

G' Day Larry!

Mk I series I and II Mills 1.3's had aluminium crankcases and fabricated parts for the venturi and tank assy.

The Mk II's used diecast magnesium crankcases dichromated black to...

RE: Club Mills!

Hello brokenenglish,

Cox TD 049/051 venturi thread is 1/4 x 32 UNEF. (Unified Extra Fine) so maybe with a large enough wrench the Tarno carb can be fitted to a Mills........ Most likely can be...

RE: Club Mills!

For the record Mills .75 and 1.3 venturi thread is 1/4" major dia. by 40 TPI.  Thread form almost certainly would be Whitworth which means a 55 degree thread angle vs. 60 degrees adopted by the USA...

RE: Club Mills!

G' Day Larry,<div>
</div><div>That's the subpiston induction.  It would have an affect on throttling but I doubt it would be that much or else Mills wouldn't have succeeded with their throttle...

RE: Club Mills!

G' Day Larry,

I see your request for the Mills 1.3 throttle assy. I have this assembly drawn and tooled so could make you one of those. See pic. attached of one I made five years ago. Not quite...

RE: Club Mills!

Update - <div>
<div>Just looked at an engine today identical shape to the 'Redfin' series and reported to be made by CS.  Black anodised crankcase.  Looked like the .030 cu. in. (0.5cc) size.  Made...

RE: Club Mills!

Interesting!  <div>The rear disc induction version uses the same side port cylinder but has a brass blanking plug fitted.  One wonders how they drove the disc.  If same crankshaft used in both it is...

RE: Club Mills!

Chris,

I'd know better than anyone about the design shortcomings within a Mills engine. After the developments in the early 1950's good development work stopped which is a pity.

The crankshaft...

RE: Club Mills!

Chris,
Many thanks for that. I had no idea of its existence.

Yes, having spent a lifetime in product design, development and manufacture I can happily say there is a lot more to making a good...

G' Day Chris,

I have to confess I have never heard of a NZ version of the Mills .75 until reading your mention of it here. Some pics. would be of interest if possible. Talking of pics. mine of the...

RE: Club Mills!

Chris,
Small point of clarifiation, the Mills 1.3 Mk II venturi is an aluminium drop forging, not an aluminium casting. It is identifiable as such by the wide and constant thickness flash line...

RE: Club Mills!

G' Day Fiery,

Oh dear! 5,000 rpm on a 7 x 4 means a problem. I test run Mills .75's on a white nylon Taipan 8 x 4. Depending on engine type and condition 7,250 rpm is typical. Irvine Mills are...

Hello fiery,

Just joined Club Mills and picked up on your Irvine Mills .75 excessive crankshaft end float problem. That would suggest that something is seriously wrong. Normal Irvine Mills .75 end...
