Hi Discus-fly, i think you will find the ignition fires when the magnet leaves the senser, not when it comes up to it.

I would take it to a weld shop that does tig welding. I've seen these guys weld two beer cans together the manifold shoud be a piece of cake.
If its only a crack you could try JB weld.
