RE: Variable Exhaust Valves Please

Kweasel I hear what you are saying about the airplane engines lower exhaust port height because of being tuned for mufflers and not tuned pipes. This may or may not negate the benifits of a power...

RE: Variable Exhaust Valves Please

ww2birds I wish I could say I think your opinion is wrong, but I can't. But given the choice of being eaten alive or going down swinging, I'd rather take the latter. There is something seriously...

RE: Variable Exhaust Valves Please

Funny you should mention the OS 70 . I remember seriously considering buying one because of that carb. I still would'nt mind trying one out but I ended up buying a YS .63 for that plane. I have 3 YS...

RE: Variable Exhaust Valves Please

Well it looks like everybody has said their piece about what they might like to see in the next generation of gas engines, so I'm going to summarize what I have got out of this thread.
1. Power...

RE: Variable Exhaust Valves Please

As we are talking about more than just powervalves now, I'm going to add another item to my wish list and this one I do have a good deal of expertise in. The carburetor. Punn intended "butterfly...

RE: Variable Exhaust Valves Please

Maybe when I started this thread I should have given it a title with a broader scope. If I am allowed to edit the title I could rename it Variable Exhaust Valves and General Updating Please. Anyway,...

RE: Variable Exhaust Valves Please

Capt'n, it is quite obvious ArcticCatRider was referring to the engine manufacturer and not the backyard mechanic when he stated it would not be super hard to duplicate. I have noticed that many of...

RE: Variable Exhaust Valves Please

Truckracer I beleive this form is for all gas engines. I have nothing against the low end engines, I own a couple of DL's. But I don't think there is anything wrong with exploring what might be...

RE: Variable Exhaust Valves Please

Kweasel. Adding a valve to the exhaust outlet will not duplicate a variable exhaust valve. A variable exhaust valve physicaly changes the height of the exhaust port in the cylinder.

RE: Variable Exhaust Valves Please

I agree with you on the ignition. there is a LOT that could be done, and as it is electronic the cost may well be very reasonable. You could even take it a futher step by adding a simple throttle...

RE: Variable Exhaust Valves Please

ahicks, from your comments I can tell that you understand powervalves and how they work and I agree with most of what you have said. I think we are saying pretty much the same thing in regards to...

RE: Variable Exhaust Valves Please

ahicks I do not feel your comments are off topic. The reason I started this thread was to discuss the possibility of borrowing technology from one sport and applying it to this one. We seem to have...

RE: Variable Exhaust Valves Please

Greg that is a good point. In fact that is basically the same reasoning the snowmobile manufacturers gave for not using powervalves on snowmobiles for years after they had become common place on dirt...

RE: Variable Exhaust Valves Please

$100 extra per cylinder, thats what I would be willing to pay for a variable exhaust engine. As for R&D I'm not asking the engine manufactures to reinvent the wheel. All they need to do is buy an old...

Variable Exhaust Valves Please

One thing I would like to see introduced soon is an engine equiped with variable exhaust valves. They have been proven on motor cycles and snowmobiles for more than 20 years. Ski Doo introduced the...
