RE: BATTERY BLUES!

There are several potential problems.

First, most NiMH cells should NEVER be run below 0.9 volts per cell. This would mean that the boat comes in with a visibly lower speed than when the...

RE: Wattage of brushed motors to find brushless

It is a futile exercise to try to calculate how much a certain motor will draw at a certain voltage. Example, I can set up a 15-turn 05 motor to pull 25 amps or 70 amps all in the same boat with the...

RE: Putting together ultra light small boat, need help with reciever issues...

I have to wonder why the poster thinks he needs a 200 meter range? A 12" boat is virtually invisible at that range, he won't be able to tell which way it is pointed! Slight waves will make it...

RE: Upgrading "Toy" Boat... need help.

GRK65, I've been a member since 2003, but it is attitudes like Steel's that keep me from being more active here. I have a limited amount of time to spend helping others, and I can't waste it on...

RE: Batteries in Parallel?

There are problems with your idea.

* Heat buildup - the motor and speed controll are not designed to run this long and they may be damaged. Regardless, motor power will decrease over the run...

RE: Upgrading "Toy" Boat... need help.

Hey, I don't mean to toss water on your parade, but he must have been pointing the gun at your wagging tongue. I know a bit about fast electric boats (I wrote the book afterall), and believe me,...

RE: Battery Question

It it were me, I'd invest in a NiMH pack instead. The NiMH chemistry is much better than NiCds and will give more power and longer run times. I'd not buy NiCds today unless I wanted the cheapest...

RE: New Cat

You did a great job, excellent build! That has been my most popular design, modified by lots of folks from 14" up to over 24" in length. I never tried steps on that particular hull, but they...

RE: Upgrading "Toy" Boat... need help.

What type of radar gun? Did he actually radar your boat for you? Exactly what speed did his radar show? How close did you have to get the boat to the radar before it picked up the boat? Sorry,...

RE: Aqua jet vs Wingspeed (ebay NQD boat) video

That's interesting - who do you know who does this? I know and have raced with most of the real top boat racers in the US, and all of them use plugs in their fastest boats. I use plugs on my 80 mph...

RE: cen aqua jet

It is also possible that the linkage is in the wrong set of holes. For maximum steering it must be in the outer servo horn hole and in the inner rudder horn hole. Another posibility is that the...

RE: Aqua jet vs Wingspeed (ebay NQD boat) video

The CEN is a much better designed and rigged boat....but you are right, you get what you pay for. The CEN is pretty lame compared to a real FE race boat too, again you get what you pay for. Both...

RE: water cooling wingrush

What, yours doesn't get up to 31 mph like the adverts says? ;) Seriously, watercooling won't extend run time much at all with the stock pack, but if you go to a pack with more voltage or a higher...

RE: Upgrading "Toy" Boat... need help.

Steel, how did you measure the NQD hydro's speed at 40 mph? That's way too high for a big hydro with that setup. Or do you mean 40 km/h?

RE: Battery Cooling

My first question is - why do you want to do this? Modern NiMH cells deliver more and more power the hotter they get, up to cell damage at ca. 150-160F. If your cells are getting that hot, then...

RE: GPS Question ???

I weep for what schools must be teaching students today. When confronted by facts, our graduates argue that the facts must be wrong because they do not understand how they can be true? The...

RE: Hammer nitro hull to electric conversion

The official top speed for Crackerboxes is 22.7 mph, a similar hull with a surface drive set the record at 26.4 mph, so it is possible to get decent speed with a submerged drive. However, a surface...

RE: Motors

At 45.5" your cat is very large for good performance from two 700 brushed motors - is this hull designed for electric or gas motors? You will probably need to run at least 14-16 cells per motor to...

RE: Battery Question

SCR cells will have a lower internal resistance, so they will deliver more power more quickly. They will potentially allow your boat to go faster, but cells alone will not double your boat's speed.

RE: GPS Question ???

Battery temperature alone can make a large power difference - with a 12-cell NiMH pack the difference between a pack at 70F versus one at 130F can be one volt or more under load. That's a lot more...

RE: GPS Question ???

I'm apparently the only one here who has made definative tests of GPS accuracy in R/C boats. I have run dozens of passes at official sanctioned straightaway record trials (IMPBA and NAMBA), and have...

RE: Graupner 12v 700 turbo vs. FineDesign SS1 700 cordite

What burned up your motor was excessive heat from too large a prop, too many accelerations/running too long, or a boat which runs too wet. Like Jan said, at 16 cells it doesn't take much to doom...

RE: Stock 550 motor VS Trinity 27T Stock motor

ROAR race motors like the Horsepower Pro are much more powerful than the 550 can motors, but that also means that they need more maintenance - they wear out comms and brushes quickly, and with their...
