(More hook)

I have been focusing on 4-engine bombers lately, although I still have 3 P-61's and 2 P-38's in my stable

Recently, I installed one of JR's new gyro's in one of my Bf-110's, not...

Twinman!

Delighted to see you back on the forum!

Have you got any interesting and/or unusual projects to tell us about?

(If that's not a baited hook, I don't know what is)

Tomas, from VQ headquarters in TX, has been fighting a bad lymphoma all year. I don't think he's very active in the RC business right now. Also a shame because he was always one of my favorite...

A guy named Tomas, in Texas used to sell them. Don't know if he's even in the business anymore.

I've got so many planes, I should sell you mine, but I would want back what I put into it, which you...

Tony: I fly mine without pilots

SWORDSON: your and my experience are remarkably similar. About the same number flights over the years and last summer I noticed about 2/3 of my rudder hinges broken...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

My apologies.

I just double-checked the thread Jimmy Bananas started on the ASM P-61

He clearly states he flew it with Saito .62's

I can tell you from personal observation, they flew...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

.72 four strokes are perfect engines for the ASM

I flew my VQ (.91 2S's) side-by-side with JimmyBananas ASM (.72 4-S's). They were a good match. If anything, he was a little faster.

Here's...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

A 26 cc gas engine would be a nice powerplant for the plane, although perhaps a tough fit in the cowl (it would stick out some).

Personally, I don't much care if a good gas engine sticks out a...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

SWORDSN:

Kudos on surviving the first two engine-out's.

I think you will find the VQ-61 to be a sweeter flyer, but not as easy a lander as the VQ-38....probably has to do with the absence...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

SWORDSN:

Sloppiness in the flap linkages irked me, too.

I think what you mean by "reversed leverage advantage" is the flaps move a lot with relatively small servo movements?

That, and...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Sorry about that, dude!

I've always said that these reports of "flies great with an engine out" were conditional to the situation.

Sure, if you lose the correct engine with plenty of...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

My experience with the 61 is that you don't need flaps for landing, but they will help slow it down. Your landing on the video looked exactly like most of mine....burn up half the runway just...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Actually, I didn't call it a "pleasure." I called it a "thrill." Somewhat like a cardiac stress test :).

It looks darn good, even with the silver spinners.

Don't baby the throttles too...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Build 'n Fly:

You can even get latex paint on aluminum spinners to hold up to starter cones if you rough them with 400 cloth and pre-apply a "metal primer" designed for down-spouts and gutters...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Sorry, Sam.

I tried to think of things to make you feel better:

1) Philosophy- My friend RV Man told me "You aren't a real P-38 pilot unless you've had a spectacular crash."
2) Cold...

Ditto from me regarding: "Always set CG with gear up."

You may be surprised how little gear cycling moves the CG on a tri-gear twin.

The only way you're gonna lack elevator...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Based on my experience with a Ziroli P-61 (twin G-62's), and the VQ P-38 (OS .61's), I think .61's might be marginal for a plane of this size, weight and conformation. It certainly won't have trouble...
