RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

After looking it over and deciding to keep it light as possible, I will probably just go with a stock muffler and not even a can.

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

I got mine today from Chief, arrived in 4 boxes. I was surprised to be zero damage to the plane! Plane looks nice. Now all I need is an engine. I have my name on the list for a DA 85, but may not...

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

I am holding out for the DA 85 or 3W 85cs for mine that is coming. Think I am going to go with a full length KS 1090 as well for some umph.

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

I could be wrong, but thought I read somewhere back that Chief might have got these some how not totally legit, and that any of them bought TBM or SD would not warranty because of it, but I could be...

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

jrjohn, that is the price, I paid $629 shipped for the one I just ordered. Hard to beat that, I think they are unloading them just to get rid of them.

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

I cannot remember what is behind the cannister tunnel, what else would have to be modified to get a full pipe in there?

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

Is the SD carbon fiber main gear anywhere to be found for these, or are they long gone. I liked my 33% so much I am thinking of getting another one, but no joy on the SD gear. Also, what is the max...

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

I had to open up my slots a bit too, to get the full 55-60 degrees of deflection. You do not want to go longer than that as you will lose mechanical advantage and resolution on the servo.

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

On my 33% Yak I used one Fromeco peerless 4800 pack, 1 Bager Switch, and 1 Regulator, all wired with HD Deans connectors, worked awesome. I used a single 2400 on the ignition. If noise is not an...

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

I ran all three props on my 3w 80cs and can and they all performed in a similar mannor compared to the super 80, but with less power. The Vess 26A still best on the 3W too IMO.

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

I thought the PT 26x10 was better than the mejlik and menz 26x10s by a decent amount, best prop tried until started to run a prototype Vess 26A and it is definitely THE prop for the super 80 IMO,...

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

Rduley, if RCS finds out that you were running 50:1 I bet they do not warranty the engine. The manual says 32:1-40:1 and I asked about running bel ray at 50:1 and they said they wouldnt cover any...

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

You can get away with not baffling a DA. Engines like 3W and BME you need good baffling to keep it cool. Baffling works, cooler engines make more power and last longer. Start a poll. I know of a...

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

You need to do something to get air to the cylinder, if you look several pages back (post 1051) you will see how I baffled mine to get air to the cylinder.

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

I had the AM 33% Yak and flew it about 60 flights before I sold it.....wish I kept it. I have flown my friendsAW 75cc yak, and while it is a nice plane, it doesnt fly as well as the AM yak, and was...

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

I think it depends on the paint shop, some will pre-mix, others will not. If you got to mix it it is not hard, they will tell you how much to mix of each.

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

You can get PPG at most automotive paint stores, its not cheap though. As for wetsanding, I would probably go with 1000 grit or finer just to knock the shine off the existing clear coat.

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

The super 80 is plenty for this plane. Mine with the 3w 80 was great but the super 80 just makes more power, plain and simple.

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

Heritage, I used a 5955 as well on the rudder, to get the geometry right I used an SWB 4" offset arm, and replaced the stock rudder horn/bolt with a longer one that was 4"

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

The cases I read about were all on here, so might do a search. How do you plan on getting this plane under 20lbs? Even if you use 2 of those servos, its only saving a tad less than .6oz compared to...

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread
