Horsepower is an expression not just of how much work can be done, but how much can be done in a unit of time. The faster you go, the less time the engine has to do the extra work asked of it.

Every time the speed doubles the drag increases 4 times. So in this case the drag has increased 8 times.

Let's see....8 times 12.5 to go from 50 mph to 100?
So it takes 100 hp to get to that point.

Looks like to double the speed again you would need 800 hp?
