RE: Whats the best ARF you ever owned ?

GP Spacewalker with .91 Surpass
Why? It's like it was designed for our elevation, 6300 ft.
I flew it for at least 5 years as my "everyday" model, summer and winter, and loved its rock steady, s...

RE: GP Spacewalker Discontinued!

Really, I think you have to hand it to GreatPlanes for running the ARF kit as long as they did. It appealed strongly to only a very limited number of modelers. Their Tiger Moth is also majestic and...

RE: SIG Spacewalker aerobatics

I've been flying the Great Planes 78" Spacewalker for years and love its smooth, s-l-o-w aerobatics. When you get attuned to the plane's pacing, it's easy to connect scale-looking maneuvers. I think...

RE: Hog Bipe Engine

Hobby People has the Magnum .91 4-stroke going for $150 this month, a real bargain on a good engine.
I've flown 2 Hog-Bipes with Thunder Tiger .91 4S's, great combination.

RE: Magnum XL 91 RFS vs Saito FA 100 (Which one is Better)?

I think both engines are quality products, but have differences that would recommend one or the other for a particular application.
While the Saito is more powerful, a perhaps more significant...

RE: SIG Mini Plane (Bipe)

I didn't do the fairing of the landing gear. Harry Higley's BIPLANES book uses the Smith as one of his projects, he details a good way to set up the cabane assembly. The book's well worth having...

RE: SIG Mini Plane (Bipe)

Although I found the recommended c.g. position too tail heavy, with it moved forward to the lower wing leading edge, mine was a real joy to fly. Easy on and off the ground, good low-speed handling,...

RE: Sig Hog Bipe Build

I just didn't like the interplane struts without reinforcement of the screw holes, it seemed the liteply would wear immediately.
So, I got some extra 4-40 blind nuts and glued them into the...

RE: What ARF do you wish was available as a kit?

When I put the time into building a model, it's not going to be one that can be mistaken for an ARF.
I've got no problem with buying an ARF of an airplane type I want to fly.

RE: Cermark Pitts Setup

Mine's the original red model with Surpass 1.20, plenty of power at 6300 feet elevation.
All tail surfaces operated with stock pull-pull cable. One Hitec 605 elevator, one 615 mg rudder, mounted...

RE: The Great Waldo Pepper

Just saw The Great Waldo Pepper for the first time and loved it. The young Susan Sarandon was a treat along with lovely Margo Kidder. I liked the characters, Redford makes such a good not-so-lovable...

too late for Ryan arf

If you've been wanting a Ryan ST-A from GreatPlanes, they've discontinued (dropped) it.

RE: Wierd thing happened today at the field

FWIW, yesterday and today the forecast is for high aurora borealis activity, which is caused by the bombardment of the atmosphere by solar storms. 10 on a scale of 1-10.

RE: SIG SMITH MINIPLANE

The .52 2-stroke seemed to like 11x6 APC's.
Try Sheldon's or Hobby Barn (Arizona) for the Higley book. Somebody's got to have it on the shelf still.

RE: SIG SMITH MINIPLANE

I think you'll be fine with that setup, considering mine was pretty hot with the .52 at 6300 ft. elevation.
Yours will be more powerful than that.

RE: SIG SMITH MINIPLANE

Mine flew powerfully with a .52 Magnum 2-stroke. No cowl hole needed for the cylinder head, it looked great. Came in at 5-1/2 pounds.
Beg to differ with barnowl, but the Smith can be set up as...

RE: Anyone with a Magnum .91FS?

I think the local engine experts say to screw it all the way in, just until it stops, then open 1-1/2 turns. If you blow into a piece of fuel line attached to the carb inlet nipple, you should hear a...

RE: Nobody wants louder engines?

Our ears were developed to hear the tiny noises made by prey animals or predators trying their best to be silent, long before there were any engines or amplified sounds. Imagine how quiet the world...

RE: SUGGEST A BIPLANE FOR SAITO 100 OPPOSED TWIN

Hi damifino, I shortened the nose on my 2nd Hog-Bipe 1/2-inch for the Thunder Tiger .91 4-stroke and it's about right. So I think you'd certainly want to shorten it for the twin. Since some guys...

RE: Dave, Your opinion on e-fliers please

Right on, this makes perfect sense to me. The fact we've taken modeling into the turbine jet and 42-percent-scale range on such simple radio gear is ridiculous. Of course, everyone will put up a...

RE: How do we get the "Average" age down from 57.5..

Lowering the age average, let's see, kids (under driving age) don't have the dough. This hobby costs serious money! The coolest thing about the widespread building of public skateparks is that most...
