RE: EDF Producing 46 Pounds of Thrust

Yeah Bob,I guess your right. I should let Eddie step on my opinion like he did with the flowery words and not say anything about it. I wonder how you would feel if someone defended Morris in one of...

RE: EDF Producing 46 Pounds of Thrust

Sorry Eddie if you don't like my opinion in my thread. Isupport those who lead and inovate, notthose who copy andfollow. This thread is about a fan that has pushed the EDF enevlop to the next level....

RE: EDF Producing 46 Pounds of Thrust

Based on the pictures in the first post it looks like the stators are attached to the motor case. If this is the case, then it is an inrunner.

RE: EDF Producing 46 Pounds of Thrust

The 15/16 cell setups BVM had used a Castle controller.  JFetter had a 15 cell EVF in his Bandit at E-Jets but it used a Spin controller.

RE: EDF Producing 46 Pounds of Thrust

No problem Ron.  I just haven't heard about some of these issues.  BVM is the inovative leader in the U.S. but is limited by Castle.  He's made a choice to use components from U.S. based companies...

RE: EDF Producing 46 Pounds of Thrust

Don't know if its efficient. There's no other system in it's class to compare it to. A couple of years ago anything over 80A in a 120mm fan was considered an amp hog. Today, 120+ amps is the norm....

RE: EDF Producing 46 Pounds of Thrust

Yes, at full throttle it does pull some amps, butno one I know flies full throttle expect on takeoff and verticle. At the speed runs at E-Jets, they make 2 maybe 3 runs and land with depleted...

RE: EDF Producing 46 Pounds of Thrust

Hey Ron, I haven't heard of many issues with the 14 cell setups. I had controller cooling issues but have solved it. I know the controller you used did catch fire but I haven't heard of any of the...

RE: EDF Producing 46 Pounds of Thrust

I did a closedintakeduct system in the Panther. As good asit flies with that system, Daniel recommended I cut theducts back about 8 inches. Hesaid the amps would drop and the thrust would increase. I...

RE: EDF Producing 46 Pounds of Thrust

Hey Arngeir. It's good to hear from you. We missed you at E-Jets. DS had one of the v2 DS-77 at E-Jets. It weighed 2.2 pounds and was about a pound lighter than the version I have. The F-5 is going...

RE: EDF Producing 46 Pounds of Thrust

I use the FMA Power Lab8 charger with a 1000W 24V power supply. It's a 40A charger and can charge up to4 packsat 10A each. It can handle up to 9packsat once but thecharging amps per pack go down.With...

RE: EDF Producing 46 Pounds of Thrust

Thanks. The fan in the Panther isn't a Stumax though. It's a Schubeler DS-77 HST. It does have the same FSA as the Stumax 110 but puts out much more thrust. At the time of the video the Panther...

RE: EDF Producing 46 Pounds of Thrust

Thanks Ron.  The type of comments in this thread don't bother me.  They aren't personal attackes like I used to get from the one west coast reseller.  They are mostly just opinions based on personal...

RE: EDF Producing 46 Pounds of Thrust

UncleJoe, I remember when you did that project.  At the time, that project was on the bleeding edge.  If I remember correctly, you had 10 cell setups in the F-4 using 30C FlightPower batteries.  If...

RE: EDF Producing 46 Pounds of Thrust

Well stated Jack. For me, flying EDFs is more about the challenge. Sure, I could build my BVM 80" F-86 and put drop a turbine in it. But where's the challenge in that? For me, it's more satisfying to...

I completely agree. I fly both, although I tend to lean more towards EDF.

RE: EDF Producing 46 Pounds of Thrust

Mike, the specs I saw were at full throttle:
12S 310A, 12,710watts, 169N
14S 365A, 17,520watts, 208N

These are full throttle specs. As I mentioned above, this is most definately bleeding edge...

RE: EDF Producing 46 Pounds of Thrust

Actually, battery cost have come down and the power density has increased since I flew my first EDF in 2004. There are chargers out there like the FMA Power Lab8 that can recharge a complete set of...
