A propeller/rotor designer told me that the thrust column is 70% of the diameter and that the blade angle at the root can be very steep. Look at a V22 rotor.

I tried many different size/brand props on my old 108 powered US1000. I worked around 10,000rpm so that the HP stayed the same. I found that when I stood behind the plane on take-off, the engine...
