RE: RT Aerospace 1/5th T-34C Build

I concur! Kim, I've been to Top Gun as well. Home run for your model! I'd also like to see it in a magazine article as well. And if you do go to TOP GUN and want a NATOPS qualified T-34-C pilot to...

RE: RT Aerospace 1/5th T-34C Build

Awesome job Kim! I can't remember what the air scoop is for. It's not in my original NATOPS manual and I have several pics of the full scale aircraft that don't show one. Maybe Air Conditioning/cabin...

RE: RT Aerospace 1/5th T-34C Build

Perfect Kim! Way to use the scale details for a purpose. Are you going to leave it flat black or paint to match you nose color? Speaking of color, any hints on your paint scheme yet?

Info for...

RE: RT Aerospace 1/5th T-34C Build

Hey Kim,
I'm back on the WWW. We're still getting settled into the new house but I finally got the computer hooked up and had a chance to catch up on the build. That gear is sweet! It's going to...

RE: Balsa USA Super Cub Build

Maddog,
That's a lot of dihedral in your cub wing. Why so much?

RE: RT Aerospace 1/5th T-34C Build

Kim,
I ended up on the road this week. I flew into Wilmington, NC and was gassing up when a Navy T-34 flew in. I got a close up shot of the center canopy rub rails for you. They are not painted....

RE: RT Aerospace 1/5th T-34C Build

Kim, that's great news. It's nice to see you are healing well.

BTW, I'll be in Mobile next month for some annual CG pilot training. I won't be too far from NAS Whiting if you need me to get...

RE: RT Aerospace 1/5th T-34C Build

Now I have to go to the doctor; I just fell out of my chair laughing so hard.

Nice work Kim.

That nose gear video is sweet!!!!!! Nice job Kim. I'm glad to see that the tension bar idea works so well.

RE: RT Aerospace 1/5th T-34C Build

Looking great! I like the "AXIS of EVIL" of reference. It appears that the Honeycomb fuselage is a bit harder to work with because of its thickness. Keep up the good work, we're all watching.

RE: Ray Torres T-34C Turbo Mentor

I've been working on making the engine cowl louvers. I made a my own vacuum box. The wood louvers are made from 1/4 round bass wood and glued to a piece of ply to approximate the locations of the...

RE: RT Aerospace 1/5th T-34C Build

You make a good point but electrics have come along way. The full-scale T-34C gear cycle is around 3.5 seconds from the time you move the handle till the gear is up/down and locked. It is one of the...

RE: RT Aerospace 1/5th T-34C Build

I suspect that some guy with a pocket protector and a slide rule figured out the the air flowing around the stack was too turbulent and needed to be smoothed out. :D

RE: RT Aerospace 1/5th T-34C Build

Ben -
Nice job. The 'welds' look really good. GEARED is right about the ring flange to get that realistic gap. With a split-cowl it will need to a split ring flange. I'll have my stacks...

RE: Ray Torres T-34C Turbo Mentor

Ben,

Thanks for the scans. I'll be able to work it out when I get to that point. Like you, I have a ways to go on other details before I get to that point.

Sorry about the "straight-up...

Ben, thanks man. I'm still around. It's been a busy summer here at the CG Air Station. Things are beginning to settle down though. I'm looking forward to getting back in my shop this fall and working...

RE: Ray Torres T-34C Turbo Mentor

Thanks Dave!

Not sure about power yet. I think I'm leaning towards an electric setup. Varioprop makes a nice scale three bladed prop that would look great on this plane. I can also go with a...

RE: Ray Torres T-34C Turbo Mentor

There are no formers that come with the Ray's semi-kit. I do have the plans/drawings to make some. There are two plywood formers and two foam bulkheads that will end up inside the fuse. I believe you...

RE: Ray Torres T-34C Turbo Mentor

Alan,
The best thing about fiberglass is that you can keep construction light and it also provides for a lot of detail in your subject. Most of the panel lines are molded into the fuse. The T-34C...

RE: Ray Torres T-34C Turbo Mentor

This is the bypass door on the full-scale airplane. Inside is a door that is controlled by the pilot. It is normally closed. The pilot can open the door to allow some air to 'bypass' the engine...
