RE: β€œNew” 28% Wild Hare Extra 300 84”– Red Black Yellow

Your Brison should work fine...break it in and prop it according to the directions and you'll have no problems. It should be plenty of power and you'll have a blast flying this great aircraft.

Yours is decidedly more roomy! Post some pictures of your runway...especially if you have a Wild Hare plane in the pic! You DEFINITELY need to host a fly in sometime this Spring!

It sounds like you are having a blast! Thanks for the tips. It is always good to hear what other people have had success with putting this wonderful plane together! ;)

RE: β€œNew” 28% Wild Hare Extra 300 84”– Red Black Yellow

I have an NX 23x8 that I was using on my previous Extra. I was using a 22x8 again during the re-break-in process on the DA-50 after the "updates" when the unfortunate incident happend.

Yes, I...

RE: β€œNew” 28% Wild Hare Extra 300 84”– Red Black Yellow

That was one clip that didn't make the video...so much good footage to choose from! Yes, it has pull out power to spare! This light feeling the New WH Extra has is particularly useful when learning...

RE: β€œNew” 28% Wild Hare Extra 300 84”– Red Black Yellow

We took advantage of the fabulous weather to film some more action with the New Extra. This is fun! :D

RE: β€œNew” 28% Wild Hare Extra 300 84”– Red Black Yellow

Well, I want to get out and do some more flying, but the rain just won't stop! This time of year is called the "Winter" here in CA, even though my wife says it is just a long fall.

Anyway, I've...

RE: β€œNew” 28% Wild Hare Extra 300 84”– Red Black Yellow

Wow! We need to get another flying day like Saturday! Even with family in town I was able to sneek out to the field for a couple of hours to tune and trim the New Extra 300. Once the CG was...

RE: β€œNew” 28% Wild Hare Extra 300 84”– Red Black Yellow

It was a bit of a challenge to get my CG correct. In the maiden video the CG was dangerously aft of where it should have been. I was very surprised having balanced the plane at the recommended 3-1/2"...

RE: β€œNew” 28% Wild Hare Extra 300 84”– Red Black Yellow

Greg:

My only concern is the metal-to-metal contact that the wire would be making with the header and possible resultant RF noise from any vibration. Any metal to metal contact on the aircraft...

RE: β€œNew” 28% Wild Hare Extra 300 84”– Red Black Yellow

For a comparison, here's the OLD Extra 300LX with the Slimline Pitts muffler on it flying a similar pattern as the New Extra in the previous post.

Check it out here: ...

RE: β€œNew” 28% Wild Hare Extra 300 84”– Red Black Yellow

I kept the maiden video short and sweet. There was extreme fog rolling in and out that morning and I wanted to tighten the prop bolts after a short flight anyway. When the CA weather clears up,...

RE: β€œNew” 28% Wild Hare Extra 300 84”– Red Black Yellow

For the DA-50 there's so much information out on RCU. I had some oscillating rpm issues and I looked into it. Come to find out, the pressure in my cowling was changing as I went inverted or on...

RE: β€œNew” 28% Wild Hare Extra 300 84”– Red Black Yellow

Going back and resealing the header to the cylinder head with red high temp RTV was the only project I had for my preflight this evening. Here's a picture of the thin layer (less than 1mm) I put on...

RE: β€œNew” 28% Wild Hare Extra 300 84”– Red Black Yellow

Maiden Day

First impressions:

1. Very easy to fly despite the fact that the CG was pretty far aft. I should have used a CG machine or something, fingers at the wingtips didn't give me an...

RE: β€œNew” 28% Wild Hare Extra 300 84”– Red Black Yellow

Here are the pictures of the pull-pull temporary "installation" for the balancing, then the resultant actual installation. I like the clean look of the pull-pull system. Only two wires exiting...

RE: β€œNew” 28% Wild Hare Extra 300 84”– Red Black Yellow

I had to decide where the rudder servo was going to go...in the pull-pull configuration or on the side of the empenage below the elevator servo. It seems natural to use the pull-pull configuration...

RE: β€œNew” 28% Wild Hare Extra 300 84”– Red Black Yellow

Installing the horizontal stabilizers was just a matter of putting in the bolts after sliding both sides onto the stab tube. I didn't have any linkages the right length so I had to make another set...

RE: β€œNew” 28% Wild Hare Extra 300 84”– Red Black Yellow

To seal the header to the head I used Permatex Red RTV. It was almost $6.00 a tube at Autozone, but it will last a while!

I couldn't risk the covering on the fuselage being caught by the air...

RE: β€œNew” 28% Wild Hare Extra 300 84”– Red Black Yellow

The tailwheel was begging to be finished, so I went ahead and added the springs. These springs are not expanding springs like come in most hardware packs. The unique feature these springs offer is...

RE: β€œNew” 28% Wild Hare Extra 300 84”– Red Black Yellow

I attached all the fuel lines and made sure to put fuel line clamps on every connection. The Aerotrend blue line goes to the carburetor and I used Tygon for the filler and vent lines. To make sure...

RE: β€œNew” 28% Wild Hare Extra 300 84”– Red Black Yellow

I desperately needed to tidy up the ignition wires as they were just flailing about and not even connected. Using a mini-Deans connector for near zero loss and a sure connection in the vibration...
