RE: 1/3 Scale Halberstadt D.III

The guns and shutes look outstanding...and they make a really interesting and unusual scale highlight on an already unusual model.

RE: 1/3 Scale Halberstadt D.III

Copious Kudos!!! Both the take-off and landing look smooth and graceful. Looks like you've got a winner here. Again.

RE: 1/3 Scale Halberstadt D.III

Both outstanding AND informative! Can't ask for more than that. ;) I like the way that you have the the rocker valves set in different positions...adds that extra dimension of realism.

RE: 1/3 Scale Halberstadt D.III

Seth, the dummy engine looks very good! Where do you order your casting materials and what all is needed?

RE: 1/3 Scale Halberstadt D.III

As always, another stellar WWI model! This one will be a joy to any and all who get to watch it fly!

RE: 1/3 Scale Halberstadt D.III

Ah, now I see it! I guess the problem is that I've never used that sort of ball and socket with the bolt through the ball. I was thinking of the small ball and plastic cup type and had somehow...

RE: 1/3 Scale Halberstadt D.III

I've heard of that washer trick before, but somehow I just can't visualize it, despite having read and reread the text. Can someone post a photo?

RE: 1/3 Scale Halberstadt D.III

Very clever engineering! The true mark of a modeling guru is when you can build a "twisted" wing on purpose! :D

RE: 1/3 Scale Halberstadt D.III

Art's 2 cents sums up my perspective perfectly. I really do trust the original designers. Still, I'm definitely enjoying all of the clever design work you're doing Seth and am mentally filing away...

RE: 1/3 Scale Halberstadt D.III

Don't get me wrong, I'm loving your build here and your design and construction skills are way beyond mine. And I certainly haven't yet built anything more scale than your models. Perhaps it's...

RE: 1/3 Scale Halberstadt D.III

But I don't see this as an issue of aesthetics, particularly on a model this large. Features like the Wing span, cord width, elevator and rudder size, and that "droop" were all part of the original...

RE: 1/3 Scale Halberstadt D.III

I know I'm old-fashioned and unrealistic, but the way I see scale modeling it's a not about where the pivot SHOULD be, but rather where it WAS.

RE: 1/3 Scale Halberstadt D.III

I say that any of us scale modelers who can create these spectacular scale models can probably also manage a simple head sculpt! I thought of doing this myself and had found these to get my head...

RE: 1/3 Scale Halberstadt D.III

Each post is like a lesson in woodworking/mechanical engineering. I just have one question: Is there going to be a test at the end? [8D]

You;re getting almost the same "view per post" as my CI thread. I know I'm always over here pouring over the details of every photo you post. You have building skills I could only dream of.

RE: 1/3 Scale Halberstadt D.III

I seem to remember a photo posted in one of the droop discussions, which showed that the carefully tapered spar was involved in the droop. That was probably over on the Aerodrome.

RE: 1/3 Scale Halberstadt D.III

I just don't see the rationale for second guessing the Halberstadt engineers. If the wing incidence data (including droop and washout) are available, why not just use that? At 1/3 scale your model...

RE: 1/3 Scale Halberstadt D.III

Oh, boy! I look forward to running out of superlatives...as always! :D

Here are my two yen worth on "trusting the original." While it's probably fool-hearty to use a completely scale airfoil...
