Depends on what your doing, for bashing I much prefer off-road but for racing on-road is the best in my opinon.

I was thinkning about the same thing. Get a cheap Tamiya kit to build over the winter for something to do. The Tlt-1 is a good one also, lots of parts so takes a long time to build.

I have never owned a 19t motor but I really like Trinity products and a lot of people say the Reedy Quad mag is the best 19t spec motor.
