RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly Thread

That's a good one!!! If you called Top Flite they would definately have an answer for you but I'm sure they would not accept the responsibility or admit any fault. I'm sure the ARf's are built in an...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly Thread

Resin and glass cloth is the superior finish but remember to seal the wood with nitrate dope before applying the resin. If you do not seal the wood it will act like a sponge and soak up a tremendous...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly Thread

Very nice P-51C Gary! Very subtle differences between the B and C models. Do you have a new pair of shoes on, standing there in your nice suit?? LOL! :)

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly Thread

You spent $400+ on the retracts. Now go to Aerotech or Sierra and buy a NICE set of scale wheels. The Aerotech wheels are narrower and fit in the wheel wells perfectly. Daroll at Sierra sells the...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly Thread

Chris, Nice job and great pics too. What amazes me is that through out this lengthy forum the Robart / Sierra debate continues. Seems it would be absolutely clear to all that the Sierra gear by...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly Thread

No "toe-in" for large scale models with retracts especially if flying off of a hard surface runway. Toe-in will put an unbelieveable amount of side pressure ( PSI ) on the struts and the pivot blocks...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly Thread

Well here are some pictures of my kit built TF giant P-51B. It has been a long haul and a lot of work. These pics do not have the ZDZ 60 installed yet but it has been fitted so the cowl is cut to...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

Thanks kakem!! Hey! You do not have to go through all the steps and BS they show for painting their figures to get a great looking pilot. The epoxy for the goggle lenses gives a nice appearance too....

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

If you are looking for just a bust try the 1/4 size WW2 busts from ACES OF IRON distributed by PERFECTPILOTS.COM. The 1/5th size looks a bit too small. Need painted but they are nice and light!

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

SIERRA replacment blocks are fine but they are a "patch" and makes me suspicious about them. Also If you read the weight limit for the Robarts they are rated for 22-24 pounds which is right where the...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

I agree with Gary on the glass reinforcement work. My big concern was the ROBART gear themselves. I sold my Robarts when I had a member in our club that has been flying this model for several years...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

The G62 by todays standard of available engines is a real chunk of lead. Zenoah makes good dependable engines but you want the best power to weight ratio. The DA50 and the ZDZ 60 RV are my top...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

You are exactly right, but No, you would not have to change the cowl! The cowl stays the same. It is the engine that is relocated! You must take into consideration that the early TF Giant P-51 kits...

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)

I am building the early Top Flite P-51 B kit. This may sound crazy but I purposefully built the firewall with no right or down thrust! I like to set the thrust line of engine while installing the...
