RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build

That is a great shot.

Has anyone tried to cut out slots in all of the cooling vents in the cowl? Looks like a lot of work but would look good.

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build

Yep, the color scheme is alluding me too. I've thought of white and black, like large checkerboards but have also thought of a more patriotic scheme since it is a Russian plane. Can't decide yet.

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build

My kit arrived today. I looked everything over and it looks to be a straightforward buld. The only thing that I don't like is the thick landing gear. Any suggestions for a replacement? Looks like I...

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build

Do you think they are strong enough being that thin? I haven't bought the kit yet, but should I cut new ribs out of thicker sheets when I start on it?

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build

Rob,

Thanks. It may be January before I start building it. Thanks for the pic. It is a beautiful paint job!

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build

Cyberwolf- Looking at Rob's Saito 180 in that big cowl, maybe I won't have to worry so much about temps. My 170R3 is just 3 Saito .56 cylinder heads, so they may hide in there from the looks of...

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build

I forgot about those. That may do the trick. Your plane is looking better and better. Any pics now of the plane assembled? I would like to see your cowl and belly pan on it.

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build

I think that I'll end up cutting way more than preferrable for cooling. The fins need air around them and I have 3 heads. That is a nice cowl. Maybe I can come up with cooling openings where it...

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build

Cyberwolf- Thanks. I'll consider that when I start building.

Rob C- the plane is looking better and better.

By the way, has anybody cut cooling slots in the vents on the cowl? I may need...

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build

Cyberwolf- Do the plans call for flying wires? I've been wondering since I've seen some pics with them being used. My 170R3 that I'll use only puts out 2 hp, and that is in the 120 four stroke power...

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build

Cyberwolf,

One of the best things that the guy who taught me to fly r/c did was tell me about his logbooks. I keep track of the time on each plane and it is fun to go back and read notes about...

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build

Cyberwolf,

That is a beautiful plane. You did a great job on it, and it doesn't look its age. Thanks for the pic. You did a fantastic job on it. I don't think mine will be a speed demon and I...

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build

That far back? I found references to it in 1996, but never knew exactly when it came out. I searched the AMA site but only found some short paragraphs here and there.

That is a beautiful job...

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build

I want to build this kit for precision scale aerobatics too. I have a new Saito 170R3 four stroke radial that needs a home. It puts out the same horsepower as 1.20s and am wondering if this would be...

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build

I was going to use the medium ones shown at the top of the page here: http://www.centralhobbies.com/control_linkage/control_horns/mkd.html. I had not seen the ones you linked. Interesting. The MKs...

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build

Rob,

I think the 3 lbs is with the exhaust deflector pipes. They are cupped slightly to give back pressure. I know I'll have to cut out 3 holes for the valve covers and for cooling. The engine...

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build

This has been an interesting thread for sure. I'm thinking of either ordering the kit or waiting for Santa to bring it. I just bought a Saito 170R3 for a great price, new in the box. I called CG and...
