RE: Tight Wing Tube Sockets - FIX ???

Bob--- Use a good grade of automotive paste wax and wax the tube. It will help quite a bit. Repeat as the female socket absorbs the wax.

RE: BME YAK 54 87"

Sorry guys-- was out of the loop for a bit. I have had poor results sticking CF to epoxy or polyester resin based structures using epoxy. Rough the surface of the CG a bit and use a good quality gap...

RE: BME YAK 54 87"

I&C Tech --- I use .025 unidirectional CF from Aerospace composites at http://www.acp-composites.com. I cut the slots with a hacksaw blade and glue with CA. Make sure to orient the CF so that he...

RE: BME YAK 54 87"

Hey Bob-- The mod to the landing gear seems to be holding up well so far. I have about 40 flights on it. It's easy to do and doesn't add any weight .

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Maudib-- the vinyl looks great. The price sounds fair. Sign me up! Nice work.
Some transfer strips would be a good addition; for which I would pay extra.

RE: NEW 30% BME EDGE II

Also was able to mount everything close enough to midship so that I only used one light duty servo extension--- on throttle. Those HD servo extension cables add up in weight.

RE: NEW 30% BME EDGE II

JHarkin--- I see a couple things that account for the differences in weight and balance between my bird and yours. The main balance issue would be the fact that your motor is one inch farther forward...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

The setup is a bit unorthodox. Usually there is negative only in the top wing so that the bottom wing will stall first and allow a more gentle stall entry. The stab usually has a positive incidence...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Bob--- Sorry to hear about your Ultimate. You are right they all have expiration dates on them. Just too bad it couldn't have been after flight #500. A couple of questions: Did you perform an...

RE: Best Aileron Linkage Geometry??

Finally a good discussion on servo linkeage geometry. Just a reminder that all this applies only to situations in which the servo arm rotation is in the horizontal plane. If the servo arm rotation is...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

I suppose there is someone out there that could figure out a way to strip any servo gear metal or not. That's their problem. I have no concern about stripping the 5245's.

I had a 1.2 SC in a Goldberg Sukoi for about 400 flights; had a ball. Highly recommend that combo.

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Is the 3004 metal geared? If not, that would be a source of trouble if you plan to do 3D with very high G maneuvers. I am planning to use Hitec 5245MG X 4 on ailerons which are 75 oz in @ 6V and...

RE: BME YAK 54 87"

You probably know how to land. My problem didn't start until I had over 40 landings; doing lots of touch and goes in a crosswind to get the feel of the landing procedure with this plane.

RE: BME YAK 54 87"

Great plane, bad gear. I hate to be a grinch but your "new" gear will probably do the same after several landings. See post #688 for a fix that will add many landings to your gear possibly until we...

RE: BME YAK 54 87"

You should think about removing the gear and hand flexing it to see if there is evidence of delamination. Flex it in the upward direction as if weight were being placed on it. Look for small cracks...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

I think that Aerobob is correct in saying that these gear are the generic longitudinal spindle type with no cross tying. Everytime the gear flexes there are large shearing forces generated that will...

RE: BME YAK 54 87"

That's a fair amount of uptrim to carry. How does the plane do in thrust (up/down) testing?
