You are correct their is a c clip missing but I replaced it with a collet. With the collet the armature still has room to move forward and the end bell still gets to hot to touch.

I used five minute epoxy diluted approx fifty percent with alcohol to coat the inside of a new model. After some twelve hours it still is not fully dry.
