RE: Things you'd like to see on the market....

Engine technology has gone so far since the late 90s that your statement here doesn't really mean anything anymore. 4-stroke glow engines of the 90s were rather weak, but nowadays they rival two...

RE: Things you'd like to see on the market....

1/10th scale? Nitro. 1/5th scale? Proper scale DFV V8s. That happens and my wallet will take out a restraining order on me I'll empty it so fast :D

    I'd also buy a 1/18th or 1/24th scale indoor...

RE: Things you'd like to see on the market....

Meh. Getting a speed boost in that airboat is as simple as dropping in a better engine and prop combo. It uses bog standard aircraft engines of the 0.20-0.40 size range, which means an OS 46AX will...

RE: Things you'd like to see on the market....

Yeah, it's a shame the companies and the competitive guys go phef at it as well. That's why we don't have any. I bet ya if we mind controlled the competitive crawlers to all suddenly crave a four...

RE: Things you'd like to see on the market....

It's about 50/50. I do realize that about 90% of what's on my list would end up in expensive models, though. Just for sake of example, Stinger 609s are $5,409 for a base N/A model and nearly $9,000...

RE: Things you'd like to see on the market....

Whoo boy. Ok. I got this.

1: More engine powered models. Yes, I know, brushless is faster. But I couldn't give a flying monkey's left nut about that! I want excitement. I get more excitement...

RE: One flick starts, is this a myth?

1: The guy that guy was replying to mentioned OS, and he was talking about OS. OS hasn't made a diesel engine in 40 or 50 years.
2: I clicked on this thread on the homepage, so no, i didn't notice...
  9. Just bought an OG Tamiya Grasshopper. Need some suggestions for batteries

I just picked up an original Tamiya Grasshopper off eBay. $70 RTR with matching old school stick radio(Says Challenger 250 on the case), just needs batteries. I plan on giving this thing to my dad...

RE: One flick starts, is this a myth?

The fuel ones. I've had one-pull starts out of my 18 CV-RX and one-flip starts out of my 46AX. The key is to not abuse them, keep them tuned a bit on the rich side, and keep your glow ignitor good...

    RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

Starter/gen would be too noisy with straight cut gears like that. Maybe the teeth are a hall effect sensor or something strange?

That's rookie tuning mistakes. I had engines that didn't want...

    RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

I noticed that too. Perhaps there's two tiers of engine, 8cc for 1/10 cars and 15cc for 1/8? Smallblock and bigblock?

    RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

I'm seeing them too. I'm thinking: Onboard electric start? If you get a blister from your pull start you're doing it wrong. It should start in five to ten pulls, if it doesn't, diagnose it. Don't...

    RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

Such things actually exist for aircraft. Sullivan, I think, makes one that fits 0.30-1.0cid 2cycle and 4cycle aircraft engines, and it does exactly what you're suggesting. It comes with a little...

    RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

My my, that's quite the enormous heat sink on that cylinder head. Seems like HPI is trying to avoid using a fan to cool the thing, as is common with glow engines. I hope that roll cage is stiffer...
  17. RE: Why don't many people build RC airplane kits anymore?

Let's see here....I suppose the guy that had his arm shot off in Vietnam or Afghanistan shouldn't be getting arfs because he's too lazy to figure out how his prosthetic will help him build? The guy...

Nobody knows, but if I were to guess, I'd say:

    Early Spring 2013
    $500-$650

I would advise pulling the trigger on that MGT and waiting about 6-8 months before jumping onto the Savage...

    RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

As I said I don't really expect MTs to handle any better than a glacier. They're supposed to be big, heavy, lumbering behemoths that will roll over if you aren't careful. The real ones do this, why...

    RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

I will say that such things are hilariously fun to do. But honestly, between the indoor micro-RCs and all my racing video games, I don't need to torture an RC truck worth as much as my 1:1 doing it....

That's fine by me. All I want reverse for is to back out of parking spots and near-headons. I don't really intend on doing any reverse donut shenanigans.

I believe it will bolt right in. It looks to me that the casing for the engine is roughly the same size as a high-displacement big block glow engine, and those fit into the Savage XL alongside...

    RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

RE: I Think I'm Done with My Savage X Nitro

Haha....You know what? I just remembered something. I do have a manual start backup on my truck. It's a manual transmission vehicle, I can just push start the old pig if the starter doesn't want to...

RE: I Think I'm Done with My Savage X Nitro

I would not object to having a manual starting backup on both. Hell my lawnmower is conked right now because the starter's broken, if it had a pull start I could give no damns and cut my lawn anyway.
