Phoenix v5.5 with SD-10G

I just purchased Phoenix version 5.5 and along with it, purchased the adapter that HorizonHobby lists as being compatible with Sanwa/Airtronics transmitters. Unfortunately, this adapter will not work...

RE: Finishing for a TF GS P-51D

Got the top done. I thinned the paint a bit (probably need to thin even more) and raised the pressure to roughly 40psi.
This did help. It isn't perfect by any means, but practice makes perfect.

RE: Finishing for a TF GS P-51D

Hi Chris,

If I fail at this, I could always go into ceiling texturing business. :)

I did pump up the pressure tonight and it is better. I had to mix up a lighter color than what these...

RE: Finishing for a TF GS P-51D

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the tips. This was definitely not fish-eye. I've run into that some as well. :)

I did put on a light coat first, but it is definitely possible that it went on and...

RE: Finishing for a TF GS P-51D

I finally got the wing detailed and started painting it tonight. I think I matched up a gray color that matches the aluminum look ok, but we'll see.

I'm having a problem though. After I sprayed,...

RE: Finishing for a TF GS P-51D

Thanks folks, I'm going to try the cheapest option first. Picked up some clear contact paper last night. I'm hoping I can cut it with my cutter.
If that doesn't work, I'll probably go with the...

RE: Finishing for a TF GS P-51D

Hey guys, just thinking ahead here to when I start the final paint job on the wings and fuse and I'm wondering what type of
vinyl / masking you would recommend for the paint masking? I have the...

RE: Finishing for a TF GS P-51D

Thanks Frets,

I did a little math on this. The TF GS p-51 ws is 84.5. By my calculations, assuming a real ws of 37', that means it is basically 1/5.25 in scale.
That's not a huge difference...

RE: Finishing for a TF GS P-51D

From the pictures, what I have is definitely too large. I'm going to check with the people I bought them from to make sure they didn't send the wrong decals but the correct instruction set (that's...

RE: Finishing for a TF GS P-51D

Thanks Frets, that looks about right. I haven't used the satin yet (only the glossy) so I wasn't sure exactly how that would look but it
looks great to me.

Thanks,
Russ

RE: Finishing for a TF GS P-51D

Hey Chris,

In looking at them, some are just plain wrong. I think I'm going to scan them, shrink them a bit, then modify the ones I know are wrong (or create my own).
Most of them will...

RE: Finishing for a TF GS P-51D

Thanks for the tip Chris. Aside from the decal trick though, you are saying that the overall finish should be semi flat right?
Also, just out of curiosity, after looking at some more pics of the...

RE: Finishing for a TF GS P-51D

Hi Frets, Thanks.

I haven't clear coated it yet. I still have a little work to do (some distressing for the decals, etc.).
I am curious though, what is your opinion on what type of clear coat...

RE: Finishing for a TF GS P-51D

Hey folks,

Thanks a bunch for the all of the encouragement and help.

Mirce, I see what you mean. I tested a couple of strips of rivets and went through the entire paint cycle and it...

RE: Finishing for a TF GS P-51D

Well I dove in deep tonight and went ahead and sprayed my scoop I prepared as seen above. I'm really loving this lacquer paint as it dries really quickly. I can spray it then handle it in about 20 -...

RE: Finishing for a TF GS P-51D

Mirce, just curious. I was looking over some of your other threads again and I noticed where you had some rounded off raised rivets in places. Did you still use vinyl for this? I'm assuming you had...

RE: Finishing for a TF GS P-51D

Mirce, I've seen some of your work on other threads. In fact, you are the one that inspired me to look at using vinyl for some of my details and your work is truly incredible.
I've seen others...

RE: Finishing for a TF GS P-51D

I prepared a small test piece tonight. It's just ABS plastic left over from a previous build. I didn't prime it, just sanded it, cleaned it, and added a couple of rows of vinyl rivets to see how the...

RE: Finishing for a TF GS P-51D

Well, here is attempt number three with my testing on the scoop. This one came out much better so far. I've created the panel lines (chart-pak) then I used a home-made tool to do the rivets. I...

RE: Finishing for a TF GS P-51D

Hi Chris,

I have the el-cheapo large and small paint gun set from Harbor Freight. I also have a couple of Pasche sprayers.

I'm using Rust-Oleum auto primer "2in1" Filler & Sandable to do...

This has been a learning day for me. Unfortunately, the hard way. I completed the scoop and painted it with Rustoleum Aluminum. My first problem was that I sprayed on the primer too thick so it...

RE: Platt Zero Build Thread

Hi Nergall,

Where-ever you have panel lines (flush panel lines, overlapping is a bit different), you apply the chart-pak tape along those lines. It's a little tricky to work with at first, but...

Thanks for the tips Leroy, I did wipe a very small section and quickly discovered the problem you mention so I got out the vac after that. Basically the only sanding I'm doing is to break away the...
