RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

Over the past week or so I have been working pretty much constantly on the Savage a-arms to get them working properly. I have had them bolted up to the bulkheads and even had the Savage wheels on it....

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

The main reason for considering the .21 is cost. A top of the line small block putting out 1.5-2hp is silly. The TZ is $209, which isnt bad in itself but then there is shipping etc and vat when it...

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

TZs, for everyone!!! Actually I was toying with the idea of putting a big block .21 in it and running in the unlimited class. Not sure if I am just giving myself more headaches though. Still a while...

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

Going to the States in a few weeks, I think I will treat myself to an OS .18tz while I am there! Got to get a top motor for the beast. What bodyshell did you go for in the end? I always like the fit...

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

Do those bigger wheels result in the engine struggling for torque at all? The rollout ratio on the truck will change considerably from stock, just wondering how the standard gearing is coping.

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

If the Tmaxx cvds are long enough, fitting them through the savage hub would be relatively simple. I thought the Tmaxx cvds may be a little slimmer than the Savage ones at the hub but would able to...

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

Poorjudgement, I will see if I can post some pics. It is pretty wide but think of it as having a Revo sort of stance. CENs' were always considerably thinner than Tmaxx/ Revo etc, this modification...

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

Not really. I did some diff modifications to the Savage and tried fitting the gears and diff cups through the FF diff housing. It was close but no cigar. I am torn between doing the Tmaxx drive mod...

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

Yeah I think the diff cups are history. I did want to keep the project as simple as possible to make it easier to replace parts when necessary, it's a good mod though so I think this is the way to go.

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

If those Tmaxx dogbones dont fit the CEN diff cups then I am back to square one. I am convinced there must be a driveshaft out there that will fit the CEN cups, just got to keep looking for it. One...

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

Just one other thought. Poor judgement, when you cut down the Tmaxx driveshaft, what was their original length? I was just looking through the options of Tmaxx driveshafts from other companies and...

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

Good luck mate, let us know how it handles.
I posted in the Traxxas forum to find out the length of the supermaxx cvds' and see if they are long enough to reach the end of the Savage arms and slim...

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

The hpi shafts, will they be long enough to reach the full length of the Savage arms do you think? I know the Unlimited Engineering arms are well expensive, but they will probably last a lifetime and...

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

Taylormade, cheers for looking mate, I know it is like looking for a needle in a haystack!!
I think I may have a solution to the driveshaft issue that will allow me to retain the use of CEN diffs....

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

For me it would be 1:8 scale buggy diffs that have the same screw mounting dimensions as a CEN and diff cups that are about twice the size as CENs'. Any findings would be much appreciated. Cheers.

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

I have been sitting looking at these danm diffs all day, trying to work out some way to get the Savage hubs powered through CEN diffs but I really dont think it can be done. For this reason I have...

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

Been searching around and it doesn't look like buggy drive shafts will work. The buggies wheelbase is narrower than a truck so all the drivetrain parts are going to be too narrow to work with the...

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

Dont think there is any way for the Savage diff cups to be modified to fit the CEN. Whereas the CEN diff cups are linked together by a long pin on one of the cups, the Savage cups attatch to the diff...

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

At the end of this project I am thinking of entering into some truck racing to see how well the modifications perform against Revos' and T-Maxxs' and Tamiya TNXs'. I think with some low profile tyres...

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

One other thing that I noticed. With the Savage arms fitted the standard CEN buggy shocks are too small to reach the mounting point. The distance from the JT shock tower to the Savage shock mount is...

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

Sadly the dogbone was way too big. I am going to have a look at some buggy driveshafts to see if they will be any better. I have ordered four lower a-arms and four hub assembly units from my LHS....

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

It all works. Had the Savage lower arm and modified upper arm on the CEN today. With this set up you can use the Savage hub assembly, giving you easy access to the range of maxx size wheels and...

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

Right, the top arm goes like this. The Savage has something called a control arm where it is basically the fixed arm cut in half with a turnbuckle in the middle. If you ditch the end that mounts to...

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

The Savage arms are much longer, they would widen the CEN considerably. The main problem would be making the hub assembly work on the CEN. Haven't worked out the upper arms bit yet.

RE: T-maxx axle carriers and half shafts on a fun factor

Found a picture of the Savage lower arms. these are aluminum ones but are identical to the stock plastic ones. As posted earlier, if you remove the outer parts of the arm, the inner dimensions seem...
