I have used 3M fine line tape to mask off the lines and then I use the blue painters masking tape to hold masking paper to the fineline tape. I have been doing this for years with no problems. Paints...

when I was racing , we use a clear tape from 3M that was clear and very flexible. Sealing the gaps ( even if they are tight) make a big difference !

the T-tail on the Rivet's was controlled with a Nyrod. it had a preformed S bend to it, once you attached the elevator to the rudder post , you connected the mini snap to the elevator horn and glued...

you need to sand the primer, I would suggest making a test piece, painting the primer, then painting the finish coat to see how it flows out.
