Well, it has taken a bit more time that I had hoped, but I am very close to finalizing the part cut files for the 52-inch version of the Twin Lizzie II for Shaun. At this point I plan to offer a full...

It is a good thing if you prefer to only make parts once!

While the sound systems add significant weight and don't sound all that convincing once you taxi out, you could always stick a playing...

Well Abu, I know electric isn't your thing, but when you want to fly, it sure beats not flying.

I finally found a photo of Rob's DH-2. This is 1:9 scale, spans 40 inches, is just over two pounds...

Agreed, the final result is very impressive. Rob works in CAD and has a laser, so inevitably there is a lot of "3D puzzle / egg crating" going on. On the other hand, no reason you couldn't mill small...

Buzzard,

Thanks for the kind words. No, those are not all from the same actual club. We are scattered around the Northeast, hailing from VT, MA, CT, PA and NY. At last year's NEAT Fair a few of...

Abu, I personally think you need to focus on the positive, hard as it may be to see right now.

As for 300+ pieces in a dummy engine, no problem. Electric lets you model the entire original engine...

As Dave mentioned, a group build is a great way to get some blood flowing.

Over the last year I coordinated a group of builders to get some planes ready for a demo at the 2013 NEAT Fair. We picked...

Abu, I have been watching your projects for quite a while and feel your pain at a necessary downsizing. That said, just because it is small, doesn't make a model less meaningful.

I have to say,...

RE: tiger moth

Personally I can't imagine needing anything over a 70 FS for a Tiger Moth of that size unless you want to fit a reversible prop and hover nose down.

Given the option, I would also go for a...

RE: Robart hinge points

Normally I would as well, though for a Cub the stresses will be pretty minimal. I figured if he was walking into a LHS the regular would be the most likely found there and would certainly be up to...

RE: Proctor Museum quality Jenny Plans

Depending on where you find them, you are easily going to spend that or more to pay someone to copy the drawings for you and put them in the mail. I often see copy prices north of $1 a sq ft in our...

RE: What to do with a Goldberg Cub

Graeme,

I've always had good luck with Coverite's 21st Century fabric or Solartex. Another approach would be to cover it with a plain fabric like SIG Koverall and then paint it. Rattle cans work...

Martin,

Sorry to hear about the sticky valve but glad he sorted it out. I had forgotten the AutoCAD part of the story.

RE: 26.5% SE5A video

I don't recall right now for sure but believe this is scratch built. He has been working on the model for a number of years trying to get it as accurate as he can. I've seen other images of this...

RE: SE5a 1/5 Scale, can it compete?

Given the level of detail you want to add, be sure to cover it with fabric. If you use film you will find you will end up doing one of two things. A, stripping the model at some point to recover it...

RE: SE5a 1/5 Scale, can it compete?

Based on what I have haning in my rafters, I am pretty sure you mean Electrifly 34-inch. A great model indeed. The e-Flite one is much smaller and foam.

RE: Routered spars or longerons?

Abu,

It wouldn't take too much trouble to calculate a pretty good approximation of the savings given a few simple assumptions. I just sketched up a cross section for a 1x1 longeron. I gave it...

RE: 2.5

Abu,

The first threads I cut with my Sherline 4400 (inch) lathe were two sets of metric threads for a camera-telescope adapter. Sure, I wish I had larger, heavier equipment, but in the meantime...

RE: 2.5

If you go the Sherline route spring the extra few dollars for the 4400 lathe with the extended bed. You will be glad you did more often than you can imagine. I have the 4400 and would never give up...
