Fast foam airplane

Ok so far I have designed an F15 and cut it out of foam board. I have depron, but I fear if I go too fast it may fall apart, the foam board has the paper which is heavier but makes it very strong.

RE: Tiger Moth

I have to agree, this plane is a relaxing plane to fly. and low and slow it will fly with ease. Pop in lipolys make it a little heavier and I got 1.5 hour flights on mine... Thats some relaxing time...

Windy? No problem!!!

I just went to the field Sunday. Most pilots were just BS'n not flying because the wind was 15mph gusting over 20mph. I flew my 60 size stick plane for a while and then brought out my formosa.... The...

RE: new to electric!

I notmally dig out the foam to the correct size to put the servo in. Then I cut 2 small tabs of plastic from left over cowling material or simular... and glue the tabs to the wing. Then I put the...

RE: Fastest electric

Thanks Greg, I will go direct drive then!
I'm thinking of an f14 style plane with elevons or maybe a pylon style plane as far as design goes. And structure wise I will use foam and carbon fiber. If...

RE: GWS Formosa

i figured it was not an 8 cell... it's quite a differance that little extra 1.5 volts is amazing.
but brushless and lipolys are a HUGE differance

RE: Power Supply from a PC

8 volts?
sounds like you may have a bad power supply to me.
5 and 12 and 3.3 are the voltages you should get from the leads. 8 is not an option...
are you sure you are not measuring voltage...

How many cell is your 720?
Mine felw pretty well stock with a 9.6V 720 in it
But now I put a lipoly and brushless, well it's a little rocket...

Fastest electric

I was thinking about scratch building an electric from depron and styro. The goal of my project is speed this time. I have done 3D and pattern and scale already and the next step is a speed plane....

RE: Is flying a Biplane much different from flying a single wing plane?

The major diferance I have found in bipe's is the extra drag. Because of the added drag the plane slows down quickly. What that means is you have to fly them down under a little power until just over...

RE: First 3D ARF???

I'm going with the Mayhem. I like the size of the plane and the weight. 6 foot wingspan and a 1.20 4stroke size plane that has a weight in the 8-10lb range is hard to come by. Almost seems too goot...

RE: Pinion gear on a gws-himax setup

Sounds like you need to buy a new gear. Many times if you pull the gear from another motor it is too loose to stay on. New gears are cheap enough.

RE: Tiger Moth

I used 5 minute epoxy on mine. I used pico servos and gws rx. I then installed a li-ion that I got from a cell phone. And I get about an hour and a half flight time with that little ips motor. Also I...

RE: Just Got My Formosa...

I am currently using the 5400 with both 3s1p 1320 and 2s1p 1500. The equipment is luke warm after a 20+ minute flight. Seems to be just about right for this plane. I added a tiny amount of right...

RE: Explain gear ratios please

It's all relative. You will have to experiment with the current setup you have. Higher gear ratio will pull a larger prop slower which is good for 3D. Smaller ratio and smaller prop will give you...

RE: How does a brushless motor work?

Matt is correct on this. The ESC is a square wave generator. It produces 3 seperate square waves (one for each wire to the motor.) the speed of the motor has nothing to do with voltage or amps, but...

RE: GWS Stearman ok for a second plane?

I will say this:

The GWS Formosa would not be a good choice. The biplane may be ok though.
The Formosa is VERY fast and rolls on a dime. That will make learning dificult. The biplane will...

RE: brushless battery question

I've tried thunderpower 3s 1320 and kokam 2s 1500 both seem to work with 6.6:1 and 12X6 on the himax 2015-5400. Winning combo for the formosa ;)

RE: Just Got My Formosa...

I have the 5400 and the 4100 both will work well. But the 5400 is whats currently installed with a 6.6:1 and 12X6 prop. Vertical is unlimited with this setup and it doesn't seem to draw too much...
