RE: Looking for Austin Texas slopes??

Welcome to the land of the slope-deprived.... We used to fly from Mansfield Dam prior to 9-11, but it's closed now. It was good on a SE wind (fly over the river below dam), or on a N or NW (fly out...

RE: Sig Samuri???

Take a small road trip! If you head over to the Vancouver area, there are several slopes that will definitely support flying a Sammy. A little south of Vancouver, you have Bellingham, WA, Whidbey...

RE: Composite Hinge Construction

Check out the NMPRA site (nmpra.org) for info. Dave Norman did an excellent article on the technique. It's pretty easy and makes a beautiful, smooth, gapless hinge.

Great race, great venue, great food, great company. I couldn't have asked for a better time. Thanks to Fred, Gary, Bob, Jim, the wives, and everybody else who made it happen. Time to hit the...

RE: Club 40, AMA424,-USRA Sundowner Race in Austin, Texas RESCHEDULED!

Moving the event to August should make it a lot easier for me to attend - I'll be back on my normal schedule (nights).  Now it's time to get stuff ready!!

RE: TWF Lovers

Mtntop: What is the yellow one w/ red/blue tips? It looks like one of the old VS planes - Xingu or Rotor maybe?

RE: Hidden Switch

You can also adopt the pylon racer's way - run a piece of string or fishing line out each side from your centrally mounted switch as a pull-pull on/off. Very clean and nearly invisible.

RE: im going over 170mph

So true!! I went from a 100cc Kawi that I built myself from parts to the infamous "Widow Maker" H2 750 - the 2 stroke triple. WOW!!! It would spin the tire and/or pull the front wheel off the...

RE: Question about balsa wood????????

Stick the cat's carcass in the plane and in a few days you won't notice the smell of the urine....

RE: CMPro Swallow EX 90

1. I only used high-torque on the elevator and rudder (both are driven by single servo)
2. W/ the 110 you won't need a pipe - it provides plenty of power for verticals.
3. I used CF on all of...

RE: Qm 40 on diamond dust

Vic,

Think about it this way - split S or pylon turn, both are pulling positive Gs on the airframe. You shouldn't have any issues, just set the needle so you're about 800 down from peak on the...

RE: park servos as aleron servos

I don't know that I'd use them as a single aileron servo. In a dual servo setup the more robust ones (42oz and 56oz) ones would probably work well. The thing to remember about these servos is that...

RE: sanding fiberglass tape

Check out the Cold Duck and Blue Angel build threads in the Classic Pattern forum. Mike (RCU name "8178") has a great technique for getting virtually seamless transitions.

RE: Fiberglass wing tips... allowed?

A nice fuselage, i.e. the HurriKane/Seeker type, v-tail, sheeted wing where you have the option of cutting ailerons to your own desired size and hinging it how you want (i.e. normal or skinned). ...

RE: Vmax Q500 Hollow Composite Wing Repair?

Necessity is the mother of invention! The life of a 428 plane can be pretty short if ya don't come up with inventive repairs. :)

RE: Vmax Q500 Hollow Composite Wing Repair?

Yukon,

One method I've used on composite wings is nearly the same as Ed's, but I think it saves some sanding/filling. First, square up the damaged area so that you have a nice square/rectangle....

RE: radio ratings/recommendations

Airtronics' Stylus has the capability to be compatible with all of these. Airtronics' equipment is positive shift (like JR), but the Stylus has the capability to transmit on negative shift as well....

RE: Ultra Sport 60 build

Glad ya caught it! I'm hoping to start on my US60 next week. I'm going to go w/ flaps, retracts, and dual aileron servos. I still haven't decided on which motor to put in it yet. I have an OS RF...

Juno is still in business, and from what I've heard, the Tsunami is a GREAT airplane. I've been holding out for the 60 sized one - hopefully Derek will get a kit together for it one of these days.

Hope you haven't drilled your mount yet!! From your picture it looks like you're centering the mount on the firewall. It needs to be offset high and to the left (when looking from...

RE: Vortex Q500 Kit

Yup - they're great! I'm flying one w/ the wood (424) wing. I used a progressive set of glass layers over the center, then glassed the entire wing w/ .5 oz cloth, then painted. It still came out...
