Starter shaft worn pretty bad, ridges cut into it at bearing. Also some black crud caused by the fretting. Hard to believe this was the noise maker though.

Was doing some experimenting today with different pitch and throttle curves. I don't think I had an overspeed, no tach, but nothing got scary. Just as the blades are speeding up, right about 1/3...
