What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
HI, I have started this thread for those of you that are flying or building or plan to build an aircraft with the DLE20 installed.
Please Post what aircraft or Kit that you have and how you installed your DLE20 along with any MODIFICATIONS needed or how you installed the electronics to make it fit and balance.
Iknow there are many out there that are very excited about this new engine and what it will work in as well as what it will not work so well after trying to fit it.
Thanks and looking forward to any and all contributions.
For myself, I am currently building the GP Extra300s Kit and will be making some changes to the airplane. I am installing CF landing gear as well as beefing up the LG suports to allow for 3 or 4 screws to fasten it to the plane. I will include some photos of my plane and the engine installation soon.

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
Here's some help from the engine thread
Original: a1pcfixer
Over the past 4 months, many have posted asking "Is this engine
a good match to this xxx-xxx model?"
Some don't do their homework (read this thread), some don't understand
this engine's incredible power. Others are just new to gassers.
So maybe a very rough guideline of sorts might help some in deciding
if this DLE20cc gas engine is -or- is not a good match for their model.
This DLE20cc gas engine, is a drop in replacement for most any model
aircraft requiring a glow engine of .90 -to- 1.20 size.
So, if the specs on your model states .90 -to- 1.20, then this DLE20c
is very likely a good match!
If your model states ONLY .90, then maybe. Things like wing area, wing
loading, assembled weight, and so on will determine if it's a good match.
If your model's specs state anything less than a .90 size engine, then
most like it's NOT a good match! There are a few exceptions.
Overall, roughly speaking; this DLE20cc will be good for many model
aircraft requiring a glow engine of a range of between .90 -to- 1.20 size,
and weighing between 7 lbs -to- around abouts 20 lbs.
For 3D'ing; 7-9 lbs but the closer you get to 9 lbs, the slower pull-outs
from a hover, will be.
General sport flying; 9-13 lbs (roughly speaking), and still be spirited.
Scale flying; 10-20 lbs, but as you exceed 14 lbs it may be a bit sluggish.
A long take-off may be needed, a large wing span WILL be helpfull!
In ALL cases, reinforcing the firewall for the stresses of a gas engine
is a very wise move!!!
One other issue to consider in matching this DLE20cc gas engine to your
model will be prop -to- ground clearance. The sweet spot of engine
torque/thrust for this engine is with a 17" prop. Yes, DLE states the
prop range as 14x10 - 17x6, but the 17" props are right in it's power band.
That brings up issues of ground clearance on some potential selections of
models. Some warbirds (and other models) may have issues of prop -to- ground
clearance. If your chosen model states .90 -to- 1.20 then you should be OK.
If you can stuff this DLE20cc into your model, but have ground clearance
issues, then a 3 or 4 bladed prop may be required, or go with a smaller
prop.
This DLE20cc gas engine has more power than a CRRC Pro 26 or a Saito 1.25
(Saito FG-20/gasser) and is a drop in replacement for most any model
aircraft requiring a glow engine of .90 -to- 1.20 size.
Proceed accordingly!

Thanks to w8ye for posting this valuable information on the DLE20 and the basic of what which aircraft will best fit its design. I saw this in the DLE20 thread and appreciate you adding it here. It should be of invaluable help to all trying to decide what plane to look for.

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
I have installed the DLE 20 on a KATANA 70 V2 from OMP ( www.topmodelproduction.com/<wbr></wbr>katana70V2.htm )
below are the specs:
DLE20
Prop: Xoar 17x7 @ 7600 (didnt touch the tuning needles yet) running rich
fueltank: 180cc (6 Oz)
Servos: Power HD90 all the way round
Battery: RX: 1,600mah 2S Lipo IGN: 1050mAh 2S lipo
flying weight: 3100g (6.8 Ib)
great flying, pulls straight up even with such a rich mixture. once i tune it would be a rocket. the wing loading is low so im able to fly the plane relativly slow.

I have my first one in an Ultra Stick 60, and it has spectacular performance. The second DLE-20 will go in a new 3D Hobby Shop 68 inch Velox.

I have a Hangar 9 Pulse 125 XT that I hope to install the DLE20 in. But I move slow so it may be awhile before I actually address it as I've had to move indoors away from my freezing cold garage where my work tables and good lighting are.
But I am thinking ahead and suspect that because of the way I reinstalled my control rods to address potential problem areas identified in another RCU thread that I my single location left for a throttle servo may render it difficult to route a throttle cable around the tank and to the throttle linkage.
Since this engine is clearly designed for R/C it surprises me that a reconfiguration of the carb wasn't done to position the arms to one side, the return spring disabled, and longer throttle arm installed. I have heard that a longer one may have been provided but I haven't dug thru the contents of the box to know if it was or not. Centering the carb and control arms dead center in the firewall just seems rediculous considering that most airframes plan on the fuel tank being there.
While the Pulse seems to be a nicely laid out plane with provision for nitro, gas, and electric installation I didn't expect to confront this and probably would have select a different ARF if I knew then what I think will happen now. ( A 120 4-stroke is on order just in case this gasser isn't a good mix)
If it hadn't been for winter arriving I'd have picked from some of my plans and just built something for this engine.
Still I'm excited by the prospect and hope to learn a bunch on the installation workarounds others have done with this thread.
Signed up too,
Clay

$2.09 throttle arm for DLE 20
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXDMG1&P=ML
Will have to be drilled to 3/16" you will have to put the screw in the throttle arm before you drill it or the brass will catch and spin in the arm.

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
Mounted one on a Hangar9 Ultra Stick Lite 120 w/xoar 18x8. I used the recomended Dubro motor mount(DUBG1307).
No Cowl on this plane so I mounded the engine upright and had no problem with throttle linkage & the choke
is available for "finger" operation. I did reinforce the firewall and installed the ignition module & batteries
in the "tank area" and the tank on the CG. My other USL 120 has an OS 120. When I tried to purchase another USL 120
discovered that Hangar9 stopped production BUT upon checking for PARTS I was able to purchase everything
needed, fuse, tail, wing & landing gear all except hardware and at 72 yrs young and 50+ yrs in the hobby/sport
I have enough "hardware" to finish MANY planes! Sorry, no report on preformance yet as the weather has been to
cold & Windy for these old bones. The plane did need a tad (hope all know what a tad is) of tail weight. Did not
weigh the lead but it was a tad, couple of sq. of that stickon weights. (screwed them in place) Sorry for rambling
on so but I am getting Cabin Fever this Winter. Heck, it is not even winter yet!

Great idea. But I've gotta dig thru my loose parts because I think I have one of those somewhere! Added it to my Tower wishlist just in case.

To give you a choice I just ordered the following throttle arm from AZTECH Aeromodels. It is alumonum and a little more expensive than what w8yr has proposed. I will let you know how it works as soon as it arrives.

I want to thank Jim for Authoring the very detailed list of what one should consider as a good plane to fit the new DLE20 engine. This is the list that w8yr posted near the top of this page. Jim put a lot of work and thought into this article and we all owe him a big THANK YOU!!!

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
You're ALL welcome!
Just took a dab of analytical thinking, a chunk of common sense, and a pinch of effort to do that piece.
I'd been watching the posting on the DLE20cc thread, seeing all manner of bad suggestions of what airframe might be good for this engine, and figured a guideline might help some.
It's nothing written in stone, just a rough guide.
I like saving others money, and find a good combo=a satisfied flyer!
Flip side is bad info/bad combos=flyers sadly disappointed and often leaving the hobby.

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
My DLE20cc went in an AeroWorks PROX260 Freestyle 90 size.
Details.......
AW .60-.90 PROX260 ARF- QB
AUW= 7 lbs. 2oz
DLE20cc gas engine
Optic Remote engine kill system (42% Products)
MK3 Voltage Regulator Li-Ion (MPi Products)
Froemco 2600 mAh Li-Ion 2-cell (runs everything)
Hitec HS-5645MG Ailerons
Hitec HS-5625MG Rudder & Elevator
Hitec HS-65MG Throttle
Sullivan ball link (carb)
Futaba R608FS 2.4Ghz reciever
8 oz fuel tank (off an OMP)
Madison Components Ceramic fuel filter clunk
Stihl Ultra HP (synthetic) 30:1
Zoar 16x6, Vess 17x6, Vess 18x6 props.
Rcv, batt, regulator, ign kill, ALL went in one wing panel hatch.
CG as stated in manual is waaaaay off, and both sizes of this bird end up flying tail heavy, a bunch!!!
Be aware of that, and balance accordingly. AW states such was intended for Xtreme 3D'ers
Also; center ailerons to the center of the SFG's
Stock L-G is far too short for this engine with the preferred 17x6 props, so I put Tetherite L-G on to raise it up.
It'll hover round abouts 35% throttle, and pull-out is like a missle!
At 7lbs, this combo is flat out awesome!!!!
