Default Road trips: 2014

Well, it's never too early to start thinking about summer.
I've been busy all winter hibernating in the basement, building airplanes.
I plan on going to another 17 (or so) road trips again, ranging from Florida up to Minnesota.

This week, it'll be March and it's time to make my list of 'needed' things to get at Toledo.
It's only a couple hundred miles away and it gets the juices flowing, anticipating summer, plus it's always great to meet old friends again and talk 'war stories' and find out what they have been doing.

Toledo has the 2014 web site up:
http://www.toledoshow.com/

I print off the layout sheet and mark all the venders that I want to see and what I 'need' to buy

Sam,

I have to admit, I always look forward to your Roadtrip threads. Some of us live vicariously though you you know!
May the warbird gods be kind to you this season! You're an inspiration to us all

See ya in Owatonna, Sam, if not sooner!

I have a few new birds to fly this year, also, although I don't come by them honestly, like you do.

Mom's 80th Bday party is April 5 this year.

I'm glad you guys enjoy the thread.
I get a lot of compliments on the Americana pictures.
I'll be at Mac's, both in June and October. Always enjoy Mac and flying at his field.

Wouldn't mind having one of these.
150" connie.
At 3 grand, it's a good price but I'm booked out already building three planes this winter.
I remember, when I was a teenager, we'd go to brookpark road where you could park next to the fence along Cleveland's Hopkins airport and the connies would come over you at about 50 feet high as the runway wasn't far from the fence.

Seems like if they brought it to Toledo, it would sell.

Looks like excellent project for an electric buff.

Small engines in the nacelles and lots of room for batteries over the CG

Private messages: (figure I would post an apology here)
Sorry, I didn't respond earlier to private messages: I just found out that you have to check messages.
They used to post a red message at the top of the screen when you got messages.
I just went through and closed them with replies (back to last August, 2013).
That's a real pain that a red message doesn't show any more and one has to constantly check for messages.

Bill,
If that's warbirds over the rockies, it's a good 1200 miles away. One of these days I'd like to go once for my 'bucket list'.

US185,
Thanks for posting.
I'll just be coming back from my annual 1500 mile 2 week trip from Owatonna and Fond du lac and then Muncie is labor day.
That weekend is open but I wish eastern PA wasn't so far away, 445 miles to Mifflintown, after just making a long trip; bummer.

Sam,

Cal Branton and I are making the 1300 mile trip to Virginia Beach, in October... You going to be in the area then?

We are also going to Warbirds over the Rockies in Sept at it's new location in Arvada, CO this year. That is about 950 miles for us.

I have a new blow up doll...

April 4, Toledo's WEAK signal RC show.
Went on Friday to avoid large crowds and get stuff before it's sold out!
The economy must be picking up as all vendor tables were full and lots of buyers were there.
Getting there early on Friday, one does miss all the great planes that are at the show since the bulk of them arrive late Friday afternoon, evening and I was gone by 3:30.
Cal had his wingspan 20' B-17 there and Doug brought his new BalsaUSA alby. As mentioned earlier, all planes were not there yet, but I'm placing my bets on Cal's B-17 getting top honors.

Toledo show (cont)
Ryan fireball: combo prop/jet: didn't check but probably no jet installed.
One very nice thing about attending lots of flyins is getting to know a lot of really nice pilots and seeing many of them at the show.

Toledo show (cont):
Steve and his wife, Gerry, Jim, Dennis, Eric, (left to right) Phil, Steve, Cal, Jeff, Carl.

Last two pictures is my pile of 'booty'.
More balsa and ply.
Mejzlik props.
P-47 cockpit kit.
Gun LED kit.
Ignition and transmitter batteries.
Metal band file: been looking for a replacement of my old one for a long time. Great for getting in thin quarters.
Some G-10.
Screws from micro-fastners (can always use screws).
Some clear, thin, easy to cut tracing plastic from dbalsa for making templates.
