a guy in a basement with no windows should have been a red flag LOL

my dad once told me a story about lighting farts for fun in the army, the private got 3 days solitary for burning a hole in the "back" of his uniform.... same reasoning

This kids have a lot of fun experimenting with new things and showing them to the public.. Believe it or not this free video channel is the equivalent of RCM or Model Airplane News of the 21th century.

Definitely. In terms of getting people excited about the hobby, I think FliteTest has easily done more than any single organization in the past ten years. Their videos are some of the most well produced and fun takes on R/C, and it really shows in the viewer statistics and from what I've heard from friends and family who I'd never suspect would be watching these guys on YouTube!

Unlike other online channels, FliteTest heavily promotes scratch building, which is certainly something I support as well.

Come on guys give them a break. We were all young once too. That has to be one of the most innovative ideas I've seen in a long time.

They have a big following. They just had there first fun fly. First year they had 600 pilots.

EDIT : they said they sell thousands of their laser cut kits a month, they must have a dozen employees and they just sold the company.I have never seen anything attract more young people to RC than these guys

EDIT 2 they raised over US$37K on kickstarter to prefund their FIRST flying event. First one. 600 pilots

Max.. they are hardly promoting scratch building..lol They may take ARFs, foamys, and what not, and do innovative things, granted. But to do something like this and promote it to what is aimed obviously at an entry level audience... Pretty reckless. How many kids are out there now, burning down dads garage!

So many things wrong with this but .......You have to admire their creativity and ingenuity. Not enough of that going on with today's kids. Maybe not so safe but fun to watch! A very small percentage can really afford the big bucks of a real turbine. But we all understand the sound and thrill of them. These guys got that thrill for less money than we spend on a fuel pump!

I agree, we did far worse things back in the day. I say innovate away (but a fire extinguisher is still a good idea, HA).

Ain't that the truth. We didn't have video cameras and youtube is the only reason we don't have proof of our poor decisions.

One always has to make a risk assessment with any activity, and see if it is worth while...

Reminds me of the days when there were real chemicals in chemistry sets, rather than food coloring and riding a bike did not require a full body armor suit.

Interesting comments but "grown men" are setting fire to their homes and vehicles on a daily basis charging lipos which the hobby has come to see as an "acceptable risk". I'm not sure I see the difference?
