Default Open Letter to Imex hobbies - we want the gearbox plate again!

(Erik i know you come here once in a while and you have some input into the business end of the hobby so this is addressed to you, I figured i'd just make an open post so people can chime in if they concur with what i'm saying). There's lots of items we 1/16 tank enthusiasts, would want that you can't buy, but to start somewhere - I want to be able to buy, the metal plate that goes under the gearboxes, without having to buy a $100 brass gearbox set just to get one! Or is this plate still available from somebody, if so, please sound off?

They Used to be available separately, but they quit selling these as a seperate item - WHY? Obviously these are still sought after parts because they include them with the gearboxes. I could really use this plate on my king tiger because i have metal tracks coming, since they are KT tracks they are going to be big, wide, and very heavy, so I wanted to reinforce the gearbox mounts because of that. Can somebody please start selling these plates again someday?

If you can't find one or don't want to wait on it, you could always go to HD or Lowes and get aluminum or steel sheet and make one (Aluminum would be easier to cut and drill).

I totally agree about the plates, it would be great to be able to buy them, along with the brace and bolts, but I'd be happy to be able to buy the Imex/Taigen gearboxes!! It seems like I've been waiting forever for those and the upgrade kits for the 360 slip ring. They were supposed to be out when they released the T-34 and they've released a whole new tank since then! Arrrrrg!

If you do try to make your own plate, I was thinking a good place to start might be with the covers for electrical boxes like you find at any of the big chain home repair outfits. That kind of galvanized steel is pretty soft and easy to work with. You can get a 3mmx0.5 tap for about eight bucks and matching screws or bolts are about 25 cents each. I try to stay away from the stainless steel screws, though, as they don't work with the magnetic tip on the screwdriver, which is a very handy thing to have for gearboxes!

Phil at RCTankWars used to make a plate that worked for HL, Asiatam brass and Mato brass boxes. That would be nice if someone carried that again.

Definitely want the 360 turret ring upgrades!

Just give me an email, I have plenty You guys should know to just email me by now! If we don't have it listed I can most likely get it or have it on hand!! You aren't bothering me or wasting my time, that is what I am here for! Oh and I'm here pretty much every day, most of the time I do check on the weekends too, just lately I have been going to the track and getting my backyard ready for a track as well so I have been extra busy on the weekends. I have thinned the yard enough to start the layout now

Also two things... the motor plates do not come with the brass gearboxes The second... the brass gearboxes are no more. They have been discontinued... (Here is a quick preview of V2 of them hehe) No ETA on the new ones, I am just now testing them and getting them all ready.

This was just an early version to test. It is the exact same design as our brass gearboxes, just in steel now. This version does not come with bearings as of now. Nothing is final on this one, just a test unit to play with. I am not happy with the current speed of these so I am looking at changing a few things.

Hate to say it but same experience for me. Very few of the holes lined up and once I had redrilled and mounted the whole affair it was flimsy and I could deflect the hull considerably. I went back to my old standard. Shave the posts, make a mounting plate of 3 pieces of 1/8 Styrene and drill and mount through the hull. This makes the front end SOLID with no flex or question about it.

every thing i bought from him was F----- up he couldn't even help set up an Elmode I got from him that was sent to me before I met him in person at Danville. from that point on I wanted nothing to do with him and stopped referring him to any one. and the new Elmode I got from him turned out to be a reconditioned unit and he charged me full price and forgot to send most of the wires etc.

Chief...talking about RCTankWars? and, the gearbox plate, I assume...

Erik, similar vein...when will the 360 turret upgrades be available? At one point, they were supposed to arrive with the T-34s.

TIA

God rest his soul. He is not around to defend himself. He was a tinkerer. I won't say he was the greatest craftsman, but he loved this hobby and he tried to please everyone. Let's remember him for that.

Yes the 360 kits will be here soon finally We had to halt production on them to finish the Sherman "in time" with the movie before they bumped up the release date. I will be very happy with getting these, it will be a simple plug and play just like the T34's.
