Default New Futaba 18SZ?

Cheaper than the 18MZ....almost some of the same features but wayyyy less in cost?.. sounds like a winner.

Looks like a really nice radio. The price point is great too!

What are some of the differences that stand out between these two radios and what will make someone choose the MZ over the SZ?

I love my 18MZ too, but I still think it's over-priced. Hopefully this new one is more reasonable.

Doesn't look like much...one main thing is the camera.

Yeah, that 0.2 MP camera had to have added $4.99 to the cost of the MZ.

The picture of the SZ looks like it has the area where a picture of your aircraft would go so I'm figuring you can just put your pic on your SD card and import the pic.

Hey, it has flight conditions! Finally a Futaba radio with flight conditions for less than $2000! We haven't seen that since the 12FG!

Come on, Matt! Your bias is showing! You know the travel case for the 18MZ is easily worth $1900! SMH! ;-)

I would have purchased the SZ over the MZ had it been out 2 years ago.

I have just ordered the 18sz, I've been waiting a long while for a suitable replacement for my 12fg, the 18mz was way too much money so the sz fits the bill.
Best guess on delivery is sometime in October here in the UK
Looking forward to the new toy

I took a two year break from the hobby and I sold my 14MZ. I have one of these on order and should be a great replacement for it. Hopefully, I'll be able to import my old model set ups to get me in the air faster. It would be nice if they released the manual some time soon.

I hear you, I think this radio is way less than half of what I paid for a 12Z over 12 years ago, inflation adjusted, almost 1/3! But I got 12 years of use from the radio!

Seriously you cant wait to buy forever, so sometimes these things happen. In a different industry, I dealt with these "features vs price" arguments all the time. This is not easy call.

And such a low price, this unit seems to indicate that the 18MZ sell through pipe may be full? I would think that this low price 18 channel would significantly cannibalize a big percentage of the (remaining) 18MZ sales.

This might be a good radio to tide me over till the new dual band Jeti (the one with the 915 MHz secondary band) come out.

BTW, doesnt the FAAST telemetry have airspeed??

I'm waiting for the Jeti 24 as well. Should be out by the end of the year. FAAST telemetry only has GPS speed. No pitot available. Part of the reason I'm done with Futaba. Very few updates/added features to the MZ and telemetry is limited.

Yes, but Jeti has been VERY responsive to suggestions and implementation of software upgrades.

FYI for now. the 18sz does NOT support 14mzh files. Will Futaba make a handshake program between the two different file types? Only time will tell..

Saw the new radio this weekend at JP, but didn't get to "play" with it because everyone else was whenever I went by. I did get a chance to pick it up and hold it for a few seconds. It felt smaller and lighter than my MZ, but it could have been the jet lag.

I did see someone going through some menus, and they looked somewhat similar.

Pretty good sized thread on the radio on those other two forums Mike, I don't want to get too specific and I think you know who I mean, but I got threatened with the loss of my membership for suggesting folks go to one of other websites due to the ad invasion here.....
