Default IS FAA registration still required?

After seeing the FAA ruling that hobby RC is exempt from all the nonsense, are we still required to register with the FAA or ?

unfortunately, AMA folks make up a minority of folks flying SUAV. by the last count i have seen 400,000 folks had registered. now even if you count the free youth registrations that AMA has, we only number at most 180,000 at the present time. less than half. realistically, i am thinking that the actual number of AMA folks registered is closer to 130,000. as more folks register with the FAA our percentage will dwindle even more. we have little leverage right now, and that lever is getting smaller as the days go on.
now, why would the FAA want to go through with all the mess involved with allowing the AMA folks to use their AMA number as a FAA registration number, when, amongst other things, we have already signed up for their registration number?

The amount of people who fly RC and who have chosen to register will always outnumber the number of folks in the AMA, I suspect it's been that way forever. As others have noted the costs to change what is already is place is probably prohibitive, and the possible door it opens for more changes and special requests might also be a reason it doesn't happen. It's a nice item on the AMA wishlist, but I don't see it as a priority or even something they should spend time/effort/money trying to make happen. It's just a number.

No taxation without representation. The registration is nothing more than a tax and we have nothing to show for it. Therefore I have not and will not register.

You'll show them!

Although the chances of you ever getting "caught" or having to deal with the FAA or LE is slim, let us know if it ever happens and how it goes. Based on the videos similar folks post up online protesting similar issues, going on and on about being a sovereign citizen etc etc, it doesn't usually end well. Perhaps someone will put together The Boston Nitro Party.

Nah, they are to busy flying and enjoying the hobby.

Not original, Bob P used the same line. I'll repeat my line too...which is that you probably agree with more than you let on too.....it's o/k, consider it a guilty pleasure, like crispy bacon perhaps!

You actually get a nice number to affix to your aircraft, a beautiful printable wallet sized ID card, and would be excluded from being charged with failure to register which can have a significant penalty. At < $2/year for registration it's a no brainer, but the choice is yours. You've been warned.

The fee helps offset the costs for the employee(s), data base/web server as well as some of the know before you fly program.

What a Nimrod. ALL aircraft, including our toys, are supposed to be numbered in case of an acceded of some sort. The FAA is not the king of England taxing us poor rebels so it can enjoy tee time.

FAA registration is required for radio controlled aircraft weighing over 250 grams and flown outdoors. Otherwise registration is not required.

In other words, control line, free flight, indoor flying, and outdoor flying of very small planes under 8.8 oz are exempt.
