Default Stihl FS65 to convert

If anyone is interested a Stihl FS65 that could be converted to an airplane or airboat engine is listed in the market in the airplane gasoline engines section. It's 19.8cc and is a full crank. The ignition magneto is part of the pull starter shroud ,so electronic ignition is the only way to use it for an airplane.Stripped down it should be pretty light.I never ran it,so I can't say it runs great.I was going to get it converted but never did and it's just taking up room on the shelf.

Well the price is certainly fair.

I have a Stihl 20cc that I converted that I like a lot, but mine has square fins. Yours might be even lighter. Actually, yours looks similar to a cute little Kawasaki 22cc that I have to convert.

With the closings of WackerEngines,Carr Precision and Jag ,it only leaves Lambert.I don't know if he does a variety of engines to fill in as many as the others did.If someone had the knowledge and equipment to make the products such as mounts ,prop hubs and mufflers,it might be a nice little side business.I have this engine ,several 25cc and 30cc Homelites, a couple 28cc McCullochs, a Husquvarna 28cc Mondo, several Weedeater 25cc and a Troy Bilt 4 stroke.I can do so much to them ,but when it comes to making the parts that the are needed that's where it ends and I end up with a bunch of weedeater heads that I can't use.I quit taking them when people offer them to me and they end up in the local salvage yard.

Well, it is the influx of cheap Chinese engines that has killed the conversion engine building business. People figure why invest in a slightly heavier, used engine when they can buy a brand new Chinese engine for the same amount, more or less. The Chinese engines aren't nearly the quality of most popular conversion engines, but people just don't seem to care about that. Then there's the fact that the expiration date of the airplane usually occurs before the expiration date of even a Chinese engine anyway.....

It will be interesting to see how things go if Trump manages to impose large trade tariffs......

Oh god, now I've done it.

I'd be interested in the 30cc homelite engines. Do they run and not worn?

They haven't been run since I've had them. Most I've fixed just needed cleaned ,a new plug and some carb work ,if they even had a carb.I'll check them out when I go to storage and let you know.

I found a 30cc Homelite which has spark, muffler and carb adapter and crankcase cover.I had it apart before and cleaned the inside of the cylinder a little,The other engine which I thought was a 30cc Homelite is a red shrouded Craftsman 25 cc,which looks the same a a Poulan 25cc.
I also found a 25cc Homelite ,that has spark, back cover, muffler and carb adapter.I had several carbs, but don't know which went on each engine.I usually change carbs to an 11mm venturi when I can find them.It was from an electric start Homelite trimmer. It has a compression release button on the cylinder ,which I was going to use a short bolt instead of the button.
You can have both of them for free, just pay shipping. If interested let me know and I can find a box to fit them to get a shipping quote for you.
First four pics are the 30cc .

My daughter is a social worker in city hall in New Orleans and works for the mayor's office. Her and others are afraid of loosing their jobs,if Trump cuts federal funding to their programs. It's just a wait and see game at this point.

The quick and easy way to determine a Homelite 25cc from the 30 without measuring is to look for a bridge in the exhaust port. The 25cc engines have a vertical bridge in the middle of the exhaust port, the 30cc engines do not.

That's true with the stock engines, but one that has been modded might have had the bridge taken out by the modder. One example is the 25cc Homelite full mod marine engine that I have.Someone might think this is a 30cc.

Yes, that is quite true. I always convert to a pinned ring and remove the exhaust port bridge myself when modding the Homelite 25cc engine
