OS Engine Max-28XZ can i put a starter on it?
i was given a HOBOA hyper 7 with an OS Engine Max-28XZ.
This is the first time i have had to deal with a starter box and i would like to know if a starter can be installed. the back plate is recessed.
My previous car is the traxxas nitro sport with ez start and something similar would be awesome. I have no intention of racing, this is just for fun around the track or park.
I have seen many starting system but they all attach to a back plate that has a hex nut on the outside. do i need to replace the "crankshaft" for lack of a better word.

Converting a bump start engine to pull start will require changing the crankshaft, backplate, and starter assembly (including starter pilot shaft). Better to stick with a bump box IMO. OR sell the bumpstart engines and buy a pullstart or rotostart engine.

So the starter must magically drive the crankshaft to start the engine? A bump start engine cannot have an electric starter attached to the rear of the engine without first changing the crankshaft to add the SG drive pin that the starter assembly will drive. So at the VERY least, you're tracking down a crankshaft for an engine that may never have come with the pullstart crank.
Lets see some detailed instructions and diagrams how your system installs. I am still not confident that it's going to work without extravagant parts sourcing.

Still no installation diagrams or detailed instructions/photos showing the installation. Neat idea - don't get me wrong... but I need to see installation instructions and diagrams to see for myself if this is a "direct install" on an engine not built for any starting mechanism other than a bump starter...

Your system will not work in a bump start engine as I expected. For the OPs engine, he wanted to convert from bump start to pullstart or rotostart. That means they would need the crankshaft that picture number two would drive (extended crankpin needed and not present in a bump start engine), then they would need the backplate (present only on pullstart/rotostart engines) in picture number one to hold the starter shaft from page two. So your system will not work on a bump start engine.
The problem with OS engines is that parts are expensive and on older engines very hard to find due to poor distribution. Those two parts could equal half the cost of a whole new engine easily. Your system (although very neat) would work on an existing pullstart engine at the expense of parasitic power losses due to the engine driving the starter/charger system. Then there's the expense of the system. What does the system cost? I am guessing it would need to be shipped from China? Does the system come with the modified backplate? If not, how would the average modeler without a lathe or milling machine modify the pullstart backplate to fit the bearings? Is the starter shaft only bushed with the bronze bushing or is it sealed with an o-ring too? What modifications were done exactly? What safeguards are put into the system to prevent oil from getting into the starting unit from the backplate? Can you link us to the installation instructions or are there not any?

This engine was not intended to have a pull starter installed on it. just find you a bump box and a heater to heat up the block and run it dont waste your time with at all this idea it is not worth it. This engine devlops over 3hp and was intended for a truggy not a buggy which is what you have here. my 2 cents thanks Michael
