How many tanks is enough....?
When...
Does a passing fancy turn into an interest?
When does an interest turn into a hobby?
A hobby to a passion?
A passion to a Calling?
A Calling to an Obsession?
5 tanks? 20? 100? When is too much of a Good Thing?
I can see Obsession in the rear view mirror....

A proper goal should be to have one of each type tank of WWII, including major subclasses (look somewhat diff) for at least German and American armor .... Then you've reach obsession!!!!! I'm well on the way!!!! But don't tell the wife how crazy I am.

I have 4 rc and one static. That's enough for me. Sometimes I want to have another one, (I need a russian one in my army, and the t55 looks great...) but hell, no, I have enough.

As long as you still pay your bills at the end of the month then there is no such thing IMO If you are lucky like I am and your significant other doesn't pay that much attention to models then just play with one at a time like I do. I'm always bringing something home or have a project on the desk so she barely even pays attention anymore. Get some of those large plastic storage crates from Walmart and put toys in them and label them "clothes" or something your significant other will not want to look at.

I have been infatuated with armor and tracked vehicles since I saw the movie "The Battle of the Bulge" so I have built many, many models and just recently got into 1/16 scale armor in 2000... then RC in 2003.
BUT I wish I really had the money and space for 1/6 scale, but like Erik said... paying the bills and having fun is the important issue.

My problem is space. 1/10 scale models aren't the largest available but they do chew up space. Once upon a time I was involved with multiple facets of RC not just armor: gas( ignition engine ) boats, helicopters and the first generation of 4WD offroad buggies. I've left all those except for the kyosho LJs. I focus on armor because IMHO it is the perfect RC hobby: no need for a flying field, body of water or race track, you can run them almost anywhere especially the smaller electrics...

It does help if your other half doesn't take too much notice. Fortunately, I have a fairly big garage and workshop to store and work on all my toys. as long as they are not messing up the house, she is fine. also, as long as Bills and life expenses are also covered, I can do pretty much what I want so I'm lucky I guess. Tracked vehicles have always fascinated me from boyhood so training as a mechanical engineer and gaining secure employment has helped me to fulfill my RC tank dreams. Absolutely loving what's on offer from all the companies in the field at the moment - so much choice now and relatively affordable. I can remember the 1/16 Tamiya King tiger tank for RC being sold in the seventies for around £500 which was a fortune and I could only dream. Now I have 3 KT's,7 Tiger1's,2 M26's,1 M41, 1 Challenger,3 Abrams, 3 Panthers, 3 Pz4's, 1Pz3 and a Leo 2a6 and 1A4, All at various stages of build and different features I've added. So, cost wise, things have not moved forward much at all and the whole hobby has become more affordable.
Long may it continue and I will carry on.
Cheers

Your question got me to wondering about how much "stuff" I actually have on my shelves. I took a rough count and almost had a nervous break down trying to count that high. I need a lot more fingers and toes. I decided to break my stash count down to the various scales and types. Here is a count that is fairly accurate ---- it comes out a little different every time I make a count. This is the result of over 20 years of having fun with my obsession. My house is not a home, it's a hobby shop. A hideout. A therapy clinic. An escape room. A sanctuary, and all of the things listed in the responses posted so far.
21 1/16 Cast metal models.
27 1/16 factory built R/C models
24 1/16 conversions of factory models.
84 1/16 total scratch builds. About 1/2 are R/C.
17 1/16 scratch built trailers.
19 1/16 artillery pieces.
29 1/18 miscellaneous AFVs
6 1/16 motorcycle conversions.
7 models of other scales.
6 1/6 military items.
That comes to 240 toys in my playpen
Where do I keep all of this? On 264 feet of shelves in my hobby room, bedroom and living room.

Rex - I take my hat off to you - that's what I call a collection - well done. Actually, my other hobby is RC electric aircraft and I know a guy at our local club who has 500 plus rc model planes, built or in kit boxes in his 2 bedroom cottage. He actually sleeps with aircraft kits on his bed - he is single and retired by the way but what a collection!!!!

My amendment to this question would be how many of your tanks NEED to be RC?
I mean, you build a few versions of the Panther or Sherman... are all of them RC or are they RC ready?
