Hi, I have just ordered PE Competition 12 for my 38% Extra. I'm using two TP 4200 li-po batts, Two Fromeco Sahara regs and Futaba Fasst R6014FS Rx.
It has standard HD switches but I have Wolverine switch I'm thinking about putting on or I can turn the Regs into a fail safe switches.What would be the best options as far as switches?I'd like to use the stuff I already have.
Did I ordered the right PE? I hope I did since it has been designed for 12 ch receivers.
Also the regs have Futaba/JR in and out connectors.Do I need to change it to Deans to plug it to PE? If so can I just cut the fut/JR connectors and solder the deans to the wires or do I need to change the wires to a different gauge?

Hi Pavel,
You must realize the PowerExpander Comp 12 was designed to be used with batteries and not regulators. We have the PowerSystem Comp 12 with regulators when they are necessary. That said, you can use regulators with the PowerExpander Comp 12 but you have to remember the BatShare on the input will result in 0.4V less that the regulators put out getting to the servos. If you want the servos to get 6.0V you have to set the regulators to 6.4V. Also, you really need 16ga or 18ga wire coming out of the regulators with Deans connectors. The 22ga wire is just not sufficient for a 40 lb plane. You also need heavy wire and Deans connectors on the input to the regulators. You also have to realize its impossible to match regulators so they share current equally. Using two regulators you are going to find you will get anywhere from 10% to 90% battery drain difference depending on how closely the regulators are matched.

As far as switches, you need switches that have at least 18ga wire and Deans connectors or use failsafe switches. You do not want any 22ga between your batteries and the PowerExpander Comp 12.

Hi Robert,

thanks for your response. I have bought the plane RTF and the setup in it was 2x Li-po, 2x swithc, 2x fromeco sahara, 2 wires from each reg to the Fasst R6014FS rx.
The plane was flying before and I flew it a few times, but someone told me that I need a power box because I don't want to pull heavy AMPs to the servos trough the Rx.
Especially R6014 Rx which had some problems with the heat and I don't want to risk the plane because of that.
So can I ask you what would you do?

Hi,
This is really up to you. We think that for any plane over 50cc you really see a difference running a PowerExpander or PowerSystem. At the very least I would re-wire the Fromeco Sahara output with 16ga wire and Deans connectors and connect it to the PowerExpander Comp 12 you bought. Set the voltage on the Saharas to 6.4V or 6.5V. You may see some dropout at that voltage when your batteries get below 7.2V or so. I don't know if you ever fly when your batteries are that low.

Thanks for the quick answer.I'm trying to get my plane ready for the weekend!
So would it be better if I get One of your reg. Super or turbo? Do I need the deans plugs everywhere - batts to switches and switches to reg?

Hi Pavel,
You can either use our SuperSwitchHD 2Pak or the Failsafe Switch & Charge Package.
Which ever will work best for you. Is this a 100cc or 150cc plane?

It's 150cc plane.
I did not see the Failsafe Switch & Charge Package on your website.Can you tell me what it is?
I also want to get Ignition cutoff so now it looks like the best option would be your PowerSystem Competition 12 Turbo Plus ,right ?

You want to get the TurboReg. The failsafe switch is immediately below where you order the TurboReg. The PowerSystem 12 would have been your best choice. Did you pay by PayPal? I think I just processed your order.
