Default leopard brushless motors

Hi,
I was thinking of trying a pair of leopard brushless motors in one of my cats (approx 1100mm long)
I was thinking of either getting a pair of 4074/1400kv or should I go for 4082/1500kv. They will be running on 6s so what are your thoughts?
Ive noticed that there seems to be guys running the 4074 but I havent seen anyone running the 4082.
The boat did have feiga 12xl but one of my motors died so I was thinking of change.

Thanks Peter

One more question
If I go for the 4082 motors, im either looking at 4082/4D 1450kv (max amp 100 amps) or the 4082/2Y 1500kv max amp 120 amps).
What does the Y and D stand for? Iknow its the type of winding but which one would be better?
Thanks again
Peter

In very general terms, the Wye wind is a bit 'gentler' on the electronics, while the Delta wind is more 'brutal' to drive. For an all-out race boat with strong ESCs the D wind would be slightly better, but for a sport boat the Y motor is probably preferred. The performance difference would be small anyway, but for a twin cat 1.1 meters long I'd get the Y motors.

The 4082 motors are longer than the 4074 motors, so they will have more torque and will handle more amps. If the cost difference is small, I'd choose the longer motor. With a twin setup you will have plenty of power with either motor.

You could drop in a pair of Castle Neu motors, 1717's for $70 each they are a steal!!! 1580KV

If they are still in stock, won't last long... http://www.castlecreations.com/promo...clearance.html

Thanks for the reply,
Do you think the 1717's would be a better choice over the 1520's?
The 1717,s should have more torque over the 1520's so I sould be able to run a slightly bigger prop, is that correct?
Thanks Peter

I would say yes, it does have more torque, The 1520 is slightly longer by 4mm, not much and they are almost the same KV 1580 vs 1600 for the 1520.

If you have the space I'd go for the 1717, motor mount is slightly different I think?? Don;t know?
