SHOCKWAVE 26 BRUSHLESS BATTERY CHOICE
hi, imm looking to run a turnigy 5000mah 20c 2s lipo on my shockwave 26 brushless. Will 20c be not enough to support the boats amp draw? i heard that it doesnt work on the ul-1 but how about on this boat?

20C x 5 Ahours = 100 amps CONTINUOUS. So yes it shoul be fine. The battery is rated 20-30 C right? The 30C is peak for short bursts, like 150 amps for 10 sec at a time.
You should be fine.
5000 Mahours = 5 amp hours...

I have used the cheapest of Zippy 20C-30C packs in a UL-1 and they work just fine.
That is 2 x 2S 5000mah in series for total of 14.8Vdc & 5000mah
It is a good idea to get a bit better cells if you can afford another $20, you would possibly be able to get Nano techs or something close.

PS, I'm sorry I made such an error on that motor, Ireally thought it was only a 380 28mm can. My worst fumble ever.

Hi carwen
I have 4 of the Turnigy/ Flightmax 2S 5000mAh 20Cpacks and they work fine. They are rated for 100A continuous and the highest current I have seen in my SW26BL with the metal Y535 prop was 55-60A continuous, 65A peak. Bear in mind that while they are recommending a 25C pack that can provide 130A+ continuously, the stock ESCis only rated for 30A.....!

One question, can a nimh battery break? I have gotten one wet and it overheats the charger, not itself everytime it charges.

Hi carwen
Its possible your nimh battery could have some kind of bad cell or short circuit which is why it overheats the charger. Does it still run OK? Do you have a way to measure the voltage when it is charged to see if it is fully charging?
If it has only just got wet you could carefully cut off the shrinkwrap to dry out the internals for a day or two, then re-shrink it afterwards. That may fix an internal problem, and you would also be able to see if any of the internal cell connections are corroded.
In terms of C rating, 20C or 25Cprobably won't make any difference, if 20C (i.e. 100A) is already more current than your motor can draw, even in a burst. So 20C would be fine, and a bit cheaper maybe. It's like having a diver's watch rated to 100m or 200m if you only go swimming ........more capability than you need or can use.
