Thinking of building cat and need help deciding setup.
Hey, this will be my fist electric build (that is if i choose to build electric)
i have a little experience with gas boats in the past but i'm mainly nitro cars so i'm not familiar with electric boats
My plan is to build a 72 inch cat, with 2 Lehner's and use 12s.
What turn motor would you recommend and what esc for this combo?
When i look at finedesign [link=http://www.finedesignrc.com/motorslehner.asp]http://www.finedesignrc.com/motorslehner.asp[/link]
They have different rpm per volts and i have no idea which would work and which wouldn't with 12s 72 inch cat.
any ideas?

if you buy from Fine design, make shure you get an online LIVE video that he has one in stock or you could be waiting until Hell freezes over.... Run away, be afraid....[X(]

That would be quite a jumP in to fast electric boating. What goals and expectations do you have for this hull? And as noted above I'd highly recommend offshore electrics for your purchases. Life will be a lot easier. I've waited 2-3 months waiting for an order to arrive only to find out it was not in stock. Very frustrating dealing with fine design.

The castle's look good too but they are much cheaper, compared to the Lehner 3080 which would give me better performance and higher speeds?
Seeing how the Lehner's are much more expensive i'm guessing they are probably better quality and are better preforming motors?
What rpm per volt should i choose? heres a list on the site to choose from:[link=http://www.finedesignrc.com/motorslehner.asp]http://www.finedesignrc.com/motorslehner.asp[/link]

Those are some pretty basic questions for somebody attempting a project like this! Think you really need to do some learning with maybe a smaller cheaper boat and learn the basics. With a setup like you want one mistake in choosing a prop will be a very expensive lesson. And don't think it won't happen to you! It happens to beginners far more often than experienced people, but it still gets all of us. And it can happen in about 10 seconds! Long before you even begin to think something is wrong!
These are not toys, really they aren't. They can do serious damage to people and property.
It's actually kind of scary to see a beginner wanting a boat like this!

Don't get us wrong, we are just trying to help. 80mph is not going to be easy and especially not in a hull this size.
Look [link=http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/products.php?cat=Neu+Brushless+Motors]Here[/link] for motors. These are cheaper and will keep up with the LMT's for the most part. You would most likely be looking at the 1Y wind on the 2230 as a possible option.
ESC's, you will want to look at something similar to the Hydra Ice HV. Capable of 200A and 12s. Interesting fact on this ESC, is you can log parameters in real time allowing you to review runs and make certain everything is in check and consistent with your predictions.
I'd also recommend doing many hours of research on this and get the opinion of several others. This is not the typical setup. I personally don't have any experience at this level.

RE: Thinking of building cat and need help deciding setup.
I know a couple people that can help me out with the build, however i think it would be great to hear from other people to get their opinion on this build too.
I'm mainly a cars guy,but i do own a 50 inch gas boat and a couple very small electrics. I was originally planning on making a gas cat with twin inline zen's, however i decided electric would be easier and probably faster once i get it set right.
Right now the motors i'm looking into are
1.) Lehner 3060 or 3080
2.) Neu 2230 y1
3.) any other motors out there that would work.
Which options would you guys choose along with what esc
i'm having trouble deciding because i'm not sure what kind of torque is necessary for a 72 inch cat.
if someone could provide an ideal set up for me it would be greatly appreciated.
something along 10-12s and for achieving high speed.

Just do some FINE research online about the stores you buy from if they are new ones to you.
And take siberianhusky's advise. If this is your first build I'd do a little practice with some cheaper builds to get a good feel for doing it.

RE: Thinking of building cat and need help deciding setup.
Currently i have not bought the hull or any parts in that matter, because i'm just in the process of planning the build.
not entirely sure if this build will even happen because i'm not sure if i can budget it.
right now i'm think my setup will be:
- MHZ c5000 hull
- Rudder and drive shafts and other hardware etc from MHZ
- 2 lehner 3080 motors
- 6s 5000 mah lipos wired in series and parallel (i found cheap ones for like 90 bucks a piece)
- Decal kit, couple wind scoops, probably get it professionally painted.
- not sure on the prop maybe x460 (have barely looked into it)
- not sure on the esc, maybe 2 hydra 240's or something along those lines.
missing a bunch of other stuff, but you get the idea

here is a nice option for that hull [link]http://www.central*********.net/Services.html[/link]think it would fit your build and free up some $$$$$ good luck with the build
