Rookie Question - motor stopped working.
I have an old Turbo Vee 3 I bought a while back and stopped using. Figured I'd clean it up and try to sell it today - had some RC issues - throttle controlling steering, so switched the channels and things were going fine...until I figured I'd push the engine for 10 seconds at full throttle...then it smelled a bit and stopped cold. The boat was not in water.
Does the motor need to be in water or else it seizes up? Did I ruin it?
When the throttle on the RC is pushed, you can tell the signal is being recieved on the other end...motor just doesn't turn.
any ideas are appreciated.

Hard to tell the problem telepathically. No electric motor should be run at full throttle without a load, this heats up the motor fast. The brushes could be stuck, there could be a shorted winding, a seized bushing, etc. Or it could be a bad ESC. These budget RTR boats don't last forever either.

My Feedback: (5)
Typically running a boat motor out of the water full throttle for 10sec with no load on the prop is not the best and will heat up the motor.
Yes there is a water jacket that forces cool water around the motor when the cover is on and air can't cool the motor .
My guess is that you cooked the motor and it needs to be replaced.
Try replacing the motor. It is a speed 600 size motor but don't get one lower than 18 turns or it will probably burn out the speed control.
