Default 5 kg servo for 21 / fe rigger ?

guys, do you think a 5 kg rated metal gear digital servo running on 6 volts would be sufficent to use on the 21 size electric outrigger ?

That is weaker than I would use but it should work. The JAE isn't difficult to turn but if you are running full "P" power pulling more than 130 amps average you may need to upgrade. Or not. IMO a digital servo is essential on faster boats due to the much stronger centering action. I learned the hard way years ago on a 10S 45" catamaran, it would spin out when aplying full throttle even with a 15 kg servo. A change to a digital servo of the same power completely eliminated the problem.

Thanks for this info, i think the motor [ 3674 - 2200 kv ] pulls approx 70 amps going by the specs.

Cool

The "specs" mean nothing other than the recommended maximums the manufacturer thinks are "safe". With decent packs it is easy to pull well over 100 amps from that motor given a large enough prop. Example, the NAMBA speed record for a 4S rigger is 138 mph, the driver used a 36mm motor. Amp draw was north of 300 amps.

But a decent conservative setup can give great performance and not burn up your equipment. Try an m445 prop, speeds should be in the mid-50s with pretty low amp draw. Step up to an m645 and you should see 60s still keeping amp draw below 100.

I run that prop (cupped a bit) on my personal JAE21 rigger with a Castle 1415/1Y motor, runs 12-second laps in the upper 70s on the 1/6th mile oval. Average amps are around 135. Very competitive boat and an adrenaline rush to drive around the buoys.

i used to fly helis and i will never buy another castle creations esc again as these escs used to burn up without notice. they were given a new name by many heli flyers;
Castle Cremations. this was about 5 years ago so maybe there esc,s are well sorted now and the price too.

Suit yourself, it's your money and your boat. I've used many Castle controllers going back almost 15 years with very few failures - most of which were clearly my fault. The 4S hydro record holder mentioned above used a Castle just like mine. Guess they can work without going up in flames.....
