Default Brushless Boat

I always enjoyed the ease of having a brushless car, and now I want a brushless boat. I was thinking of getting a cheap rtr or artr boat and put a nemesis brushless motor in, and run it on 12 cells. What are some rtr boats that could handle the power of a brushless motor? I have tried nitro but I am also interested in electric boats. If anyone has used the nemesis motors I am interested in what boat you used it in.
Any help would be GREAT!
Thanks

Maybe an aqua jet with the nemesis 540 8L motor. I am not sure how the stability would be. I am looking for 30-35mph.

Hey T3Racer,
You may want to look at Fuller's "EL LOBO 3". They even have a brushless ARF version.

Something I'm curious about, how do you select a motor for the specific application? I have a micro (13.3") deep-vee that runs on 400/480 sized motors. Hobby Lobby has "long cans" with 2-7 turns, and "short cans" of 7, 8 and 12 turns. What would provide the torque that a boat prop would require? Thanks,

TD

Hey Travis,
Here's a link to fast electric boat calculator software. This will help in calculating your performance.

http://www.rcboataholic.com/fe_calc.htm

Figureing your setup is a bit more complicated since, it's a balanceing act between your motor, prop and hull but, here is an article to get you started.

Well, I've tried it, but it doesn't contain the cells and/or motor combos that would work with this small of a boat. I just need to figure out how to add to the database.

I would not recomend a rtr boat or and El Lobo 3 for your aplication with rough water. Check out some of the deep vees and [link=http://Fine Design RC]www.finedesignrc.com[/link] of [link=http://Offshore Electrics]www.offshoreelectrics.com[/link]

Hello Fellow FE Boaters,

I'm upgrading my brushless setup and i was wondering if anyone knows any tricks for getting BEC out of a brushless ESC at 22.2v. I was considering disconnecting hte positive lead to the ESC (receiver line) and running a jumper form the deans plug (batteries) to the receiver plug with a voltage regulator that runs 6.0v from 22.2v (if i can even find such a thing). Has anybody ever tried this or know anything about it. Any advice is welcomed. Thanks. oh and the reason i need the BEC is because my radio box is about 2"x2"x3" and it already cramped with just a micro receiver and mini servo. I did consider using 123 size NIMH which are rated at 3.0v but that would really cramp the radio box and i might have a problem with servo travel clearance if the batteries were to inadvertently move during a run. The 123 batteries also don't have much capacity and would have to be charged freaquently. Once again any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
