Will this Work???

A New Cheap 2-channel Reciever and a new Cheap ESC.

Wire 1 motor up to channel 1 and wire the 2nd Motor up to Channel 2 but in Reverse?
So when Applying Both Sticks together the Boat should move Forward but when one Stick is Let go the Boat Should Turn?

Do you think this Set up will work ??? as I want to keep the directional Thrust but get better motors into it??

So instead of the channel 1 Doing Steering it will apply power to the other motor????

It should work but you will need an ESC for each channel I would think. As you would have no way of controlling the second motor.
The ESC only works on the channel it is plugged into. This is as far as I understand.

Okay this is interesting. You obviously burnt the motors out here but did you install a rudder some place OR were you still using the VECTOR THRUST ESC that comes with these NQD boats?!

IF So you found a cheap sollution for most NQD owners..
1. Replace the motors with some that can handle the 14v and your done.
(untill the esc burns out)
or
2. Replace with 2x480's as described earlier and toss in an 11v LiPoly 2000+ cell
(untill the esc burns out)

Where to get a cheap replace ESC? that is still using the vector thrust?
Thinking of taking this advice as i have think spending more then $100 on this boat that cost $25 is kinda waste.
BTW anyone can confirm the range of the stock TX and RX?

So, I was bored the other day and found a couple of extra battery connectors in my tool box. With carful thought decided to run 12 cells (two six cell packs 7.2V 30A 3300mah each). OMG! The boat is fast with 14.4 volts. Motors got a little hot, but to be expected. I know I will probably burn the motors out pretty fast running 14.4, but the motors were 10 bucks a piece. The motors are rated to handle 7.2 to 9.6 volts. So, if I am running two motors in series, with two batteries connected in series, what resistance will the dc motors provide, both motors arent recieving 14.4 volts, right?

hi All Newbie to boat here,
can some one help me by taking a photo of the mount for the servo that is used to control the rudder. i.e if you go for the single 700 motor and rudder option.

thaks

I simply upgraded mine with two 480 motors. ($9.00 a piece). They are the same diameter as the stock motors but longer. So I cut out the back side of the mounts to let the motors hang off the back and they are in perfect alignment with the shaft. It made a big difference in speed.
hey nocturnal,
like to know how many cells you are running the 480s?
I got a deal for 2 480s at $8 at some clear outs. hope they are fast enough.
i was running the last 380s with 7cells and they did not smoke, but were really hot though.

Hi, I recently bought a NQD High wind boat off of Ebay. I took it out for the first spin and was impressed by its performance. The Motors and battery got really hot. They never smoked that time. I charged the battery up and took it out for a spin again. The Motors started smoking by the time i was done.[:@] I decided to add a fan out of a computer and put in a 9V battery to run it and added a swith, and then put a small hood scoop to try to cool it down while it was running. That worked, but near the end the left motor was getting more cooled down than the right. It was veering to the right. If that is not what is happening to the right motor then i fear it is burning out. Is there ANY thing that I can do to it for under 30$, (or if a have to a little more) that will improve its performance with out having to change the chip?

swap the motors with 2 480 size motors.
I get mine really cheap from my LHS at $10 a pair.
Not sure where you can find one yourself.
but the electronics do heat up.
so i threw in a 30amp ESC and run it at 9.6v alittle faster but it aint gonna take you to lamborghini boat zone. I use it as a recovery boat now. works great.

oh yeah..if i throw in a 3s and split the esc to 2 30 amp or a bigger single ESC it can take on some of the entry level boats.
oh btw i modded my own rudder too

Hi, That sounds like it might work! I have 2 9.6V Ni-Cd 600mAh battery packs already. I just do not know where the esc goes in the boat. Is there any other electronics that need to be changed if switching to the 9.6V pack?
Thanks a lot!

hey guys do you think I could connect a 9cell sub-c batterypack to this boat?? I have the stock motors and props but I have changed the radio to a kyosho perfex(from my mini inferno). I did run it with the mini inferno pack and they are 8cells so this should work right?

Does anyone have a picture of the inside of the circuit board or could maybe sell me their circuit board "black box" for this boat. I messed mine up while trying to install thicker gauge wires.

Hi, If i change the two motors to 480's, will this work without changing anything else? I also am wondering if there is any preffered replacement battery that i should put in this boat because mine is dead. Thank you

I have a bone stock high wind that have overheating problems. I just bought a 3600mah battery for it and only two minutes into the run, the engines smoked. They are both 380 motors with mounts that wrap around the bottom halves of the motors. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem???

I have also read most of this thread and noticed that two 480's would be better and would cost a lot less??
will it make it go faster, and would any changes to the wiring & mounts need to be done?

there is really not much you can do without spending too much... you can make some water cooling (checkout offshoreelectrics) to help keep the motor cool. thats about it.

because it is always full throttle when you move, it will naturally be hot, i.e. if you are using the stock electronics.

480 does not make it go faster as it has similar KV. it will give you more toruqe.
no changes need to be done, just wire for wire, make sure you wire it such that the props are pushing water. remember the stock props are contra rotating.

now just go out and enjoy the boat... its good for some kiddy fun... nothing serious with this boat.

if you want it to go fast, i suggest you go brushless. I tried it with a 700bb 9.6 V and now with a b60 s brushless.....needless to say the brushless is much faster (on a much smaller prop). For the brushed motor i had a 45mm prop, but i now run a 36mm - all Graupner Carbon. I guess it's necessary cos of the increase in revs, otherwise amp-draw is way too high....

Hey blackorchid,
could you give me the spec's on your new highwind, mine really sucks, my shockwave 36 keeps on breaking, and my future gecko build seems to be too much of a cost to make right now.

Maybe some pics of the inside, the motor, esc, what radio & receiver you used, steering servo, rudder setup, etc.

Im still new to rc boats and will need as much info as possible.

Hi, I would consider changing to brushless but they are way out of my price range i think. I would like to find 2 brushed 480's for under 30 bucks. i dont want to add anything else than the motors if i can. If any one could please tell me a website where i could order some that would be great! Thank YOu!
