Default New Boater and Boat

I am a new boter and i am looking for a boat, i am more of a car guy. There is a lake about 2 min driving distance from my house and my mom walkes the dog around the lake, well i went with her last weekend. I found a couple of guys that meet there sunday morning, one had a big sale boat my guess is the hull was about 43 inches. Another guy hade a big tug boat (had tons of tourqe and not high end). Had a good size cat very good speed.

Well here is pretty much what i am looking for, under 16inches, would like it to not be painted so i can use my new airbrush, needs to reach around 30mph - 40mph i know it really depends on my set up, would not building it as long as it is not a terribly hard kit would not mind it being RTR.

My friend plans on buying the hydro plane so i need to be able to wope his . Any ways just stoping bye and saying hi to the fellow boaters, i want to keep it under 200 usd dont mind buying off ebay.

Hi Andrew,

Your 16 inch limit, makes it about a mono 1 size hull, these are typically powered by a 600 motor (brushed) ane 7-8 cells sub-C.
Speed between 20 - 28 mph.

Getting up to 30-40mph requires either a larger hull, 12-14 cells, a 700 motor, or a brushless set-up in the 16"hull.

My guess is this will clash with the $200 limit...

As for the friend with hydroplane plans; hydroplanes are notoriously hard to set-up properly, they are also the fastest boat around, the world speed record was set with a hydroplane (120mph+).

If he buys a RTR, you might have a chance of keeping up with a 16 inch monohull (nah...., not a chance)

As a first boat a hydroplane is not a good choice, unless you buy it second hand and know that it's set-up properly.

Another possibility would be a 16"cat, with a brushless powersource, there are relative cheap brushless combo's (motor + ESC) on eBay, that might do the trick. The hull could come from Hopf, Hydro & Marine, Dr. Psycho, a.o.

www.drpsychoteam.de
www.hopfmodelltechnik.de
www.hydromarine.de

Just remember, speed costs...

Regards, Jan.

Thanks, Jan

This what my friend is getting (not a real rc hydro plane)
http://cgi.ebay.com/4CH-RADIO-CONTRO...QQcmdZViewItem

I was thinking about it and i already have a 2-3cell lipo charger, that should help speed

Could i make it brushless powered? i just saw a combo on ebay that went for 40shipped it was an outrunner and was made for a plane me as a newbe to boats i dont know if i could use it.

Yes, sorry about that, it's all in German, but they just have the better hulls at the moment...

But you can mail them in english for info if you want.

The only site I know has more languages is MHZ: www.mhz-engines.com

Sure, you can power this foam (hydro)plane with a brushless motor, but as you said, it's not a boat.

Regards, Jan.

My question is this. Why 16 inches? You could wait for the SuperVee27, already comes with brushless and goes in the 30's no problem. While they are not out yet, they will be shortly. It would clash with a price range of 270, then batteries and charger will set you back another 150, but is a good investment.

someone on this site has a gecko that goes in the high 30's, by the way the gecko is only 13 inches long and has a fagio<<(misspelled) 400 brushless. May cost a bit to make, but it comes with the hull and hardware set for 115$ on mhzusa.com. Dont get the one with the already installed 440, it can berely get the boat past 15mph, or so ive heard. you might also want to check out the micro iceburg. two 400 brushlesses mounted on each side of the boat with counter rotating props will get it to do 35-45 mph and its only 17''.

I think the gecko is the way to go. Very high quality, small, and run well. A speed of low 30's with a small boat is fast. This can be attained at or close to your budget.

If you go Gecko, may I reccommend a MEGA motor instead of a Feigao, more $$ but it does more work and barely ever heats up. Try a 1615 2 turn for 6-7 cells, 1615 3 turn 7++ cells. Start with 27mm Aluminum or plastic props.

There is a website that tells you where to get the hull, hardware, and motors. You get the hull at redshangarone.com <<i dont know if this link still works. you get the hardware set at offshoreelectrics.com. And the motor is a 400df on a website i cant remember.

hold on let me find it.

here it is http://milehighrc.com/brushless.html

look for the 400df

as for the esc, look for it at either offshoreelectrics.com <<i dont know if they have it mhzusa.com <<may be a bit expensive or just google it.

oh, and for the radio system go to your LHS or look for a good used on this sites buy-sell page. All you would need is a two channel TX with receiver and one servo.
