I just tested this to the extreme last fall before the water solidified but I took thinning to the extreeme on a 440/3 and got about 2.5 mph out of it (and it was alreayd good). This put me over 40 with stock motor and nimh cells. What I've learned is don't remove any diameter that you don't have to, thin the blades down (hard work but seems worth it).

the problem with turning left on this boat is the way the prop spins, if you get a prop that turns clockwise(stock is counter clockwise) then you will notice it turs well left but horribly to the right, boat races only have right hand corners though, that is why it is set up the way it is from the factory

i run a x646/3 with out any heat issues to the motor or esc, seems like my batteries are alwasy warming up quite a bit though, seems like the 646 is like the 45 you talk about, like a rocket out of the hole, as for top speed i cant really say cause i have no gps but i really like the perfomance i get using this prop, it did require hours of balancing though

I balance all my props in a magnetic balancer, I was speaking of where the material is removed from. 646/3 sounds like way too much prop for the stock setup and it's way more diameter and more pitch than what typically gets things too hot. When I talk about heat it's usually the batteries. My cooling system is pretty much optimized. I'm still running NiMh and the IB4200's get smoken hot if you don't watch out. I've never had the other componants get hot enough for concern and I use an IR gun to check them regularly.

cwater, there is a seperate AMMO thread where one person in particular had outlined a list of good props for it. That would get you started (think the best one was one of the grim props). I'll look for that thread. He couldn't control the boat with the AMMO and 4S Lipo.

Here's one thread on the AMMO. I know it mentions one thread. Stinger9D9 played with it for quiet a while. I will still get one. Grim said this is the best motor upgrade out there then he chose an AMMO for the UL-1. That's a good endorcement.

this is the prop i run though now im thinking of switching to the 440/3 and dealing with the cavitation ( which i hate!!) im now pretty sure that it's my prop that is heating up my batteies so much. however the motor and esc do not over heat at all

so are you running the stock esc? Diameter is the cure for cavitation. But you can run bigger diameter with 2 blades. 642 2 blade is good for speed and heat. You can get a 645 you can finish it as big as possible and cut down the diameter until your heat is acceptable. The 440/3 is the only 3 blade that has had much success on the SV.
