I'm curious what range of temps SV users are getting on the stock motor?
Right now I'm getting (with stock water cooling and enlarged rudder water p/u):
117F on the motor, with 45mm prop, running 3800s (they get about 131F)
124F on the motor, with 48mm prop, running 4500s (they get about 139F)

I haven't gone any larger than the 48mm.
My motor on a 440 and a 642 is at 110F.[IR Thermometer] OSE jacket and water pick up off port tab. My 3800, 4200 and 4400s all get up to 140F. Put a 49mm on it and go for that smell and a pack melt down[] We need that Batt cooling mod.

Cheater!

Blackjack:
Jallen has the temp gun but I can't trust him around my boat. Motor ran kind of hot, even with the new OE water jacket, but I am running the pickup in the rudder. I need to make the hole larger. The batteries were cool. I have 4 packs of IB4200s and 2 3600 Lipos (20C). My fear with the lipos was that the boat might need the weight to hold it on the water. Not so! With lipos the boat ran 41.9 with the tabs at 0 but on the ragged edge. Now with the tabs down slightly the boat is in race trim (flat and controllable). The trim cut the speed to 38.9. I can run it the whole straight-a-way without fear of flipping. It turns like it is on rails. Less weight is easier to turn also. I did flip on Sunday in a WOT turn but that was with the heavier NMHis. (Lipos are a waste of time and money. The only advantage is SPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!)

When my boat flipped we went after it with the Ready Rescue boat and the fishing line. The RR circled the stranded boat, seemed to back up, hook on to it and magically return to shore (all within minutes). One of the neighbors came over and said that they were up on a balcony watching and drinking beer. He was designated as the one to come over and ask "How in the *$#% did you do that?†They didn't notice the fishing line.

I wish I had my camera with me so I could post a picture of the place we found to run. It is a beautiful bayou that runs through a historic residential area. The background to this picture was a beautiful old plantation home with a perfect reflection on the glass calm water. There really is a boating (on lipos) heaven.

Thanks for the batt numbers. I think I'm pushing it with the 48, but I think you could probably get away with 49mm. Loose some performance with the motor heat buildup.

Been thinking about the temps a bit. They should be lower on the next run since I put the GPS back on top of the radio box. Those temps above were from the GPS forward of the motor. Maybe lose 5deg at most now that she's not trying to push the additional 2.5ounces. Numbers shouldn't be skewed too much since the water temp is still in the mid 50s-60s.

Yup, frozen rear bearing, guess I'll have to step up to the line and buy an upgrade motor, say a 540 9XL from OSE. I already have a Phoenix80 ESC so not too much cost ahead. We'll see if I can sneak in a day of pure OT at work to fund the goods muahahhahah

I'm not worried about 16-18 cells and 75A if the motor will run like that. Any input would be cool, I'm game for doing it since I have to replace the stock motor, will have a backup when/if bearings come available. I sent Steven at OSE a hint about supplying the replaceable stock bearings[:-] Hope I hear something. WIll be like $160 for motor/coupler/flex shaft/ESC cooling plates and S&H total.... Not too bad.

I would like to have my "BlueFlame" SV set up for all out haul'n balls 18v@75A on tap. Here's the motor (Hint: stretched to 120mm for giggles only ) It's like 74mm.

The extra weight will mean it'll plow more water, but the motor will handle the load. Once over 60mph water is like concrete anyway so maybe the boat will settle into rails.

you don't need a 9 XL motor . . .
use like a 11L or 10 L motor
that is plenty of power for that thing

Keep in mind that Trunky Munky already pointed out that the boat becomes uncontrollable above 45 mph...
(with a Lehner and LiPo's)

But of course, like everyone else, I would enjoy finding that out for myself

But maybe a deeper rudder and larger surface area trims would allow a higher top end speed with the above setup. Also, maybe going to a larger cell count might keep her planted at those higher speeds. Definitely would need a faster than stock radio (meaning one that has very quick response time b/w transmitter sending and recvr implementing the command).

As speed increases with the setups and hops we're doing, the radio has to keep up with the response.

Would really like to work on 12cells and keep the boat feeling like it's actually in control. By droping down to 12cells and a shorter/higher quality motor could shave 7-8oz weight, but retain the same @650-750watts power.

Hello all, you all talk about some pretty mild upgrades-how ''bout SDV27-that''s Super Duper Vee 27??!!
18-Tenergy 3800MaH(8ga bars inst.) - GX125 OPTO air cooled esc-Feigao 2865Kv-Octura X646/3sb
Launches 6 feet completely out of the water and at WOT touches the water about every 10 feet!!
Chopped up water and turns no prob-homemade turn fins-deeeeeep!
Drilled out bottom of rudder filling and adjusted shape for maximum pickup to
cool motor only. There''s no faster sv27 than this! Never clocked it.
Video and speed soon!! See you at the big pond!

That''s a pretty funny thing to say. There is a contest coming up. I hope you are involved in that because that''s what they are trying to determine (the fastest one)

I don''t believe you. One second?

18 cells on a 2865kv motor (Which I believe Feigao doesn't make) will exceed the maximum RPM limit of that motor. It won''t work period.

Will the Traxxas Velineon motor make more power and speed than the stock Super Vee brushless motor?
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXSGV5&P=7

I know the shaft is a smaller diameter.120"...will this be a problem to make it fit my Super Vee? What size coupler is needed to make it work in the SV 27?

I used a 11L on my sv 27 and with two six packs I must shut it off at fifty feet or it will be in the next county. What a motor from OSE. Warren

An 11 Turn is a hotter wind. Did you prop down? You will also need high quality cells to keep a high load voltage.
