Then consider yourself fortunate if you never had problems sliding the coupler off the shaft after havig dimpled it with the set screw.

I have dempled them before because I didn't do a flat spot. That is why I started puting flat spots in them.

Kudo's to the manufactures that put the flat spots on at the factor.

OK, ill put a flat spot....but theres two places that a set screw attaches to the shaft, could i just flatten a spot for one or two?

don't flatten to much. you will weaken the shaft ALOT.
if you do one the shaft is about 30% less strong then normal.
only do one If you even need to do one.

it seems pretty tight on it without a flat spot, and why should i worry about dimples?

The set screw WILL dimple the shaft when you tighten it down and you will more than likely have diffuculties removing the coupler in the fututre. Just make a small flat spot w/a file or carefully with a dremmel. It doesn't take much.

quite the convo over a flat spot. Personally with two set screws I dont think I'd worry about it. What is it one on each side? I'd maybe flatten it very little or just rough it up a bit, but make sure there isnt any burs, or it might get stuck on the shaft, basically clean up what ever you end up doing.

btw how is it, Steve ships things faster than Netflix, it's almost unreal how fast. It takes him two days to ship from boston to Fl or to upstate NY. I hope he makes a lot of money doing what he does, since his service has really paid off with me at least. So many places have pi$$ed me off in the past, but he is uncanny.

dont have a dremel, and ive been using a file on it for about 2 hours, barely scratched it...

anyway. i put in a faster and tourquier servo and re-routed the antenna so it doesent come through the cowl.

im choosing between an 80amp esc that can handle up to 20 cells and a 100amp esc that can handle up to 30 cells. should i get the 100amp esc or the 80amp? if i get the 100amp, i think i might use 24 cells. Instead of having to vake a custom 20 cell pack, i can wire together four 6 cell packs.

also, what are some relatively cheap, but high quality 6 cell packs?

If you want to do 20 cells, wire together four 5 cell packs, and then you can use a cheapie charger with em. you may want to get the 100a esc, as if you ever get caught in weeds the amps go to the sky.

i think ill try 24 cells....the hull size is rated for that many cells and its easier to get 6 cell packs

never ever had a problem
I Always grind a flat spot, for hydros its more important, it takes 5 seconds to do it, and your coupler always holds, prevention rather than cure is the key.. my 16cell brushless lasts about 2 feet if you dont have a flat spot

i have drilled the shafts before, file a little flat, and just drill a very very small dimple in it, the grub screws lock into there really good.

That motor is an interesting one, - united hobbies is it 1038kv or something, IMO it will be fine on 20 cells as long as u dont pull huge amps just wondering why you didnt grab a 120amp esc from them - theres two, a 25v one which i have, and a 48v??? i think called the pentium , i have one (25v) and its fairly bulletproof so far, handled everything i throw at itincluding setups for SAW that FE calc tells me will pull over 110 amps

it was out of stock...and i completely forgot about it too[:@].....

actually, this one is the 1000kv version....

and the one i got was cheaper...
and could handle more cells...the one that would have been able to handle 24 cells was over 100$ if i recall correctly
it was more of an issue of timing...due to the amount of cash i had and becasue it was on an overstock sale, i had to jump.
http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id...3&pid=B0558276 (i got this one)

although it will need the PiStix adaptor, its still a good deal on an esc..

ok, read the programming instructions for the ESC and....im stumped....
http://www.bphobbies.com/pdf/welgard/Welgard-100A.pdf

i get some of them, but others confuse me....and do i plug in the PiStix adaptor before or after i do all this stuff?

for the Throttle Setting, whick one do i choose?

And the Brake setting?

Directing and cutoff type?

basically, all programming options besides #1 i dont get...could anyone help me out with this?

and also, when it says how to choose one of the programming options, it says to move the throttle to the center position...on a pistol grip, is that the idle position (no thottle input at all) or a position somewhere between WOT and idle??

esc is still being shipped, batts have yet to be bought (probably IB3600's) and everything else....ill also be getting that futaba radio with the 2.4GHz module thing....

drifter....still as the day it was bought....

as for vids....i have a video cam, but it records on tape and cannot be converted to digital format....i think ill have to get a digi cam sometime in the future....

this build has been in the making for less than a month.....this is considerably fast compared to the predicted time for the drifter....besides, i only get abou40$ a week by doing my chores....so im earning the parts for this build dollar by doller, i dont have a savings account i can tap into to get the cash for this build.....

and with offshore being renovated till april 2nd, im going to have to wait till they start working again before i can buy from there....

Steve ships things faster than Netflix
I know how he does it. It's the same reason my ebay feedback reads like the holy grail. If you use priority mail and get an item in the mail the same day it is paid for it will reach the destination in 48 hours. I have been selling since 99 and have never had an item take longer than 3 days to anywhere. It's not magic....Just good business.

got the esc today

its a little bigger than i thought it would be....

i think ill be using some IB3600's for the batteries....i heard they are the best to use and dont have the capacity loss problems that the IB4200's have....
