you still have the stock motor? Is your grim prop a 3 blade or 2?

Default RE: unnofficial blackjack 26 brushless thread!

just ran my blackjack after installing fuller's cat hardware and got a whopping 29mph on the gps. i know it is installed correctly and is free of any binding, but from there i'm clueless about cats. any pointers on setting it up correctly for more speed? i know this thing has got at least 40mph without any other upgrades. the batteries were placed in their stock positions (6 cell GP 3700's) and the speed control was mounted in front of the motor as per some other people's set ups i have seen. I did notice that another person's boat, when still pictures were taken in the water, sat much lower at the stern. my boat was basically level, which i assume means the first thing i should do is work out the CG. Other than that, any pointers? Oh, the prop...the only props I had to work with were the Graupner CF props, and decided to prop conservatively with a CF 40, although I have a 42, 45, and 48 as well. Can the BJ take a CF 48 without overheating everything? The strut was set lvl with the bottom of the sponsons, should it be higher, lower? any adivce?

What is the pitch on the larger props? What kind of temps were you seeing with the cf40? With so much set back, you will need to raise the strut I would think. Look at it this way, on a full size boat, for every 12" the drive is back from the transom, you have to raise it 1". This will come into play with rc boats, just on a smaller scale.

The CF42 is the largest prop in that line that will fit on the stock BJ hardware. Anything above that, and there's a rub. You could always convert to a transom water pickup though and nix that problem.

a gentleman on another forum said the BJ can handle the CF 48, so I think I will try the 45, and then if that goes ok, the 48. BTW, if anyone missed it, I am running with fuller's cat hardware.

It will, if you transom mount the water pickup. With the stock pickup on, the CF42 is the largest that will fit.

Sorry, I don't have the faintest clue what "fuller's cat hardware" is (Like many others, I'm sure), and was just responding in general to others who may be trying to put that prop on a stock setup, as would probably apply to 99.999% of BJ owners. My apologies for the redundancy of posts.

I would venture a bet that a good 75% of folks coming here wouldn't know. I am a long-time boater too, and have never heard of him, but you also have to realize that a large number of folks coming to this board and thread haven't been in boating long, or the BJ may even be their first boat.

Thanks for posting the link, cool stuff. My ignorance of Fuller's products is no longer, and I have increased my knowledge skills by one point! :-)

I've been buying from OSE for a few years now, and drooling on BBY's website for a couple of months. So many cool boats, so little money to spend!

9L AND 4S2P start with a y535 or other 35mm prop after you know the motor/esc are ok with it try a 640.

Hey guys..Iv got some good questions for yall, iv got a Rustler vxl and Im using a Venom 5400 20c 11.1v 3s battery and im thinking
about buying this boat and running that lipo, will the esc take that lipo and will it even take that BIG of a lipo. If so i want to run the
traxxas connectors on it. I already have an octura 3-blade prop, will it be fast or over 38mph close to the 40's???? How long will the run times be, its running 45min on the truck???

mm I would guess 10-15 mins run time depending on how much prop you are running. If you get the set up right, you should see speeds in the upper 40s I would think pretty easily. Which prop do you have? So far the best prop I have run is the X642 which is a 2 blade.

Well i ran mine the other day and to tell the honest truth, im not really happy with this boat, with x2 nimh batt 5000mah 8.4v the run time isnt but
7-10min, and its probably not running much over 36mph at best, so if I invest in some lipo's maybe it will help. anyone else having nimh low run times??

If you are running mostly full speed, that's about right for runtimes.
