Power set up sugestions
I have an old 1/8 scale Miller American hydro that I would like to make electric. The boat is made of wood. It also weighs 13 pounds. Yea, it's heavy. I would like to find an electric set up to run in it. I'm not looking for a 80-90 mph boat, I'm just looking for something to run fairly respectable. Maybe around the 40-50 mph mark or slower. I somewhat understand the brushless thing. I do not understand all of the numbers though. So if someone could sugest a set up or combo kit that will push this lead sled of mine through the water. I will be greatfull.

Yes that is an empty weight. No motor, an empty plastic fuel tank and a radio box with servos. All the running hardware is on the boat. I know it is a brick.

13 pounds.[sm=eek.gif]
Man this set-up is gonna be hard cuz you'll need a really heavy motor with this heavy hull.
I'm looking toward a Lehner 2280 motor with a shulze esc. Maybe even go with a dual set up to really push that boat(if not too heavy).
Cell number is gonna be hard cuz it'll require a lot of cells to power this boat(which means a lot more weight to add) and this things already 13 pounds.

FWIW a number of people have or are setting up 1/8th scale hydros for FE. A couple of groups have settled on using a Lehner 2280 or Neu 1527/1.5Y motor running 10S1P for power Schulze 40.160 ESCs are common. I am setting up an 1/8th scale Atlas Van Lines that was converted from the Dumas kit and originally run as a nitro boat. It is just shy of 14 pounds empty and almost 17 pounds with the packs installed. Mine has a Neu 1527/1.5Y and a Kontronik Jazz63V ESC. Expected speed is in the 50's.
I have a 44" cat (Aeromarine Avenger Pro) with a Lehner 2280/12 that does just under 60 and weighs 17.2 pounds race ready. Final tweaks this weekend and I hope to get over 60. These are big, heavy boats, but with the right power they can move along nicely.

The power in FE racing has greatly increased over the years no longer requiring an extremely light hull. I'd much rather have a solid hull that will survive a crash verse a hull that will fall apart during a blow over.

I do my 10S set ups using either two 5S packs in series or a 4S and 6S in series. It will be hard to fit (or find) a single 10S pack.
