Default Traxxas VXL brushless in a boat?

Anyone tried it? how well did it work? I searched but didn''t find anything

I am looking at buying a stadium truck and I am leaning right now towards the VXL Bandit or Rustler b/c I might be able to run the brushless setup in 2 of my boats (hammer and a knockoff jetsprint)

Obviously I would have to do water cooling on both to make them last

What are your thoughts? Anything that raises a red flag? I know 3500rpm/V is a little high for boats but what I''ve read, these things stay pretty cool in the cars.

Here's the motor

Here's the ESC

or the other option is to buy the SV27 motor and ESC for the boats (not sure how it''ll run on 11.1 V) and get a firestorm

On 2s it should move a 26" mono over 35mph using somewhere around a 38mm prop on surface drive.

No, I have not tried a Traxxas motor in a boat.

A 3500kv L size motor on 2s is a popular setup for E1 mono.

I think you would need a water proof and water COOLED ESC so the Velineon ESC in a boat might not be a good idea, but using the Velineon motor with a marine Castle Creations ESC is a good idea.

The shaft on the Velineon motor is a smaller diameter than most brushless shafts so a reduced size coller is needed also.

Thanks,
I was going to water cool it for sure (drill heatsink and plumb copper tubing through) and just use a ESC balloon. I''ve dunked several boats with this setup and never had any damage. It''ll be used mostly in the car but I wanted the option to try it in the boats.

I looked for the diameter of the shaft but couldn''t find it. is it 0.125" or 3.2mm? if so, that''s what both my boats run now anyway.

Shaft size is .120 according to my measurements and measurements printed on Velineon box.

I have a single Velineon system installed in my new 3905 Emaxx and truck has lots more power than stock using max size 3s LIPO. In your boat I bet you could use just the Velineon motor with the Super V''s esc. That would allow you to use 4s LIPO for even more power maybe! Super Vee ESC costs about $54.00

More than 45A will be pulled.

Use a MAXIMUM of 2s in a monohull
Use a MAXIMUM of 3s in a Rigger

Tape the hatch shut so NO water gets inside the hull.

So the single Velineon VXL system on 3s Lipo will make more power and speed than the stock Super V setup using 4s LIPO (2s x 2s)?

Not necessarily more power as that depends on how much the motor is loaded up.
